Just been looking through the local paper there's a full page advert from John Lewis their now got electricians, plumbers, painters, gardeners, carpenters and plasterers what do members know about it?

Wren are absolutely the worst once you have handed your money over, avoid at all costs.

I've done a couple of Wren kitchens, customer chose local installer, firm I do stuff for. Quality of their product is quite good, if thats what you mean. Only problem comes if something is missing or damaged. Takes an age to get a replacement.

That's where Customer Services come into play Middy, if, of course there is any which is doubtful, they have your dosh, end of.

At the risk of stereotyping John Lewis customers they seem like the kind of people who are uneasy about allowing a working class person into their home.
Just as JL act as an 'intermediary' reseller when you buy a Nespresso machine from one of their shops, they'll be providing an extra layer of service so if the electrician is late or doesn't wipe his feet they can call up and shout at a girl in a call centre.

Any one tried to join yet? We might be slagging it off but it could also be a good way of getting work, you go round to fit a J.L light and then get a cu change out of it after all the people that shop at John Lewis think that John Lewis is the best shop in the world so will listen to you when you say to them they need to get there 5 bed detached house rewired

Thinking of booking an Electrician to change my CU just for a laugh, let you know how I get on.
You seriously should, even if its just for a quote. Listen to the speil whem they talk. On their way out mention your a electrician by trade but due to incompetance of others you arent allowed to swap it yourself.

You can book a J.L.one Pete, then you'll have in part answered my original question.

That in part was my original enquiry to see if any electricians were doing work for them and what the set up was, however, it went on to be an NICEIC bashing and yes they are in it for the money it's business I was hoping that their involvement was as a vetting mechanism.

His not, like me, qualified to do so but because we don't belong to a scheme we can't in our own homes or pay the B.C. or get a third party contractor in to supervise us.

I have read the terms and conditions and it says the customer is not allowed to subsequently engage the tradesman for other works after hiring you via the john lewis scheme... clearly they want there cut and dont want customers approaching you direct..... how john lewis would know is beyond me...
I do work for a lot of people who shop at waitrose/john lewis etc... likely the target market for this new service... they think nothing of spending 3 times the going rate for groceries or a bath towel.... when it comes to hiring trades the majority are very reluctant to open the chequebook... some will not flinch at a high hourly rate but others... blood out of a stone comes to mind even for a reasonable rate.

Just occurred to me that don't b and q have a similar scheme called Homefit that send out electricians under the NICEIC badge? i have googled it and can see in 2013 they launched it. but seems to now focus on kitchens and bathrooms but no electrics on the website????

They do the very inflated prices then when you query it they suddenly knock ÂŁ7k off, designers are sent away to train for two weeks and learn how to sell and use the software bugger all about design or customer service after the sale.
