A

ample current

One of my customers wants to join 10mm T&E to 10mm 3 core SWA and the joint will not be accesable after and probable damp conditions. Any one have a recomendation on what would be the best way to join the cables and earthing the armour.

Thanks

Why won't it be accessible?

The customer is a builder and its his own house. the cable goes to an out house under ground. the cable comes into his house through the foundations into the cavity. The cable is too short to come through the wall into the room to be terminated into an adaptable box so was wondering if there was a way to joint it and leave it in the cavity. not ideal i know but was wondering if there was a solution. The conductors are just long enough to put into a box in the room but the armour isnt. Am i right in saying the armour has to be earthed.

Re: joining 10mm T&E to SWA.

A joint like this would always need to be accessible, but where does the damp conditions come from is it inside (bathroom) or external, that would mean a different joint altogether

Edit

Why not cut back and use a resin kit

Could you not dig the cable out and use an IP rated JB on the outside of the wall? You could use a JB in the cavity but I would not advise it unless there was nothing else. I would use an IP rated one though. I would join the CPCs on the banjo so that the armour is earthed. Make sure it's tight. It won't loosen if you use a spring washer. Crimp the rest.

Could you not put a Wiska type box on the outside wall above ground level and join the cables and connect the SWA to the CPC there?

A joint like this doesn't need to be accessible.
As 10mm t&e is stranded I see no probs with crimps
Could you not gland swa into a galve through box, bring t&e via 25mm stuffing gland, crimp & heat shrink, cross bond galve box and fill with resin

Agreed it doesn't need to be accessible, but if an adaptable box is on the o/s of the wall it not only gives access to the joint BUT also serves as a reminder that there is a cable down there.
