Just secured a place at my local tech on yr 1 of the 2330 - so it's a start right from the beginning for me at 37 yrs old and looking to change job slowly over 2/3 yrs (maybe before).

Competition was tough but I got on the place straight away instead of going on the reserve list. I had to prove I'm up to it and am doing a limited bit of work here and there, which I am thankfully

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who encouraged me, let me have copies of study books over email and offered advice - even though I don't know any of you.

I read the forums with interest and a lot of the threads make no sense at all as they are in trade langauge, which I'll pick up I'm sure as I go along.

Thanks for all your help, - off to get my head in a book before September.

Hello Mate, I'm down South, in a place called Farnborough, famous for the airshow and near aldershot, famous for the Army show - which is where the college is.

Good luck mate, ive just finished my Level 2, Im 36 years old, with a background as a joiner, ive done basic domestic stuff before so i had an idea, i achieved 6 distinctions from 6 exams and also did my 2377 PAT and 2393 Building regs for Electricians

Get your head down and go for it mate, u will find it ok as a mature student

Oh one good piece of advice, Buy the ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION LEVEL 2 book, published by Heinenmann i think, it shadows the course....worth its weight in gold £25 tops

HI mate, thanks for the advise, I'm going to get the book at the weekend hopefully.

How much of the course is practical and how much is theory? - i reckon I'll do better on the practical stuff at college.

What's troubling me is some of the scientific stuff like ohm's law inthe book I've got (basic electrical iinstallations) and all that stuff- how much of that comes up in exams and how much of it actually comes up at work onthe day job?.

Might just be a case I'll get inthe groove at college and it'll all come clear then?

Thanks for your help..

I would advise to start reading books by scadden and the likes, osg and gn3 etc, a lot of your early study in college will not make much sense and is underlying theory but not the interesting nitty gritty that you wont come across till your working or towards the end of college.
