Been asked to take over job from another firm of electricians that left the job because of non payment about 3 years ago (gulp!)
Big extension lots of expensive kit. Been checking there work and mostly OK but then i find in one area, no grommets on metal boxes, cord grips left off down lights along with no earth sleeving and no brown and blue sleeving on fan and isolation switch.
I just don't understand why someone would not do these things, how long does it take to put a grommet in? Tell you one thing it takes a lot longer to put a grommet in after its all been connected!

Maybe it was the apprentice or maybe as they were struggling to get paid they couldn't care.

Anyone else had to take over someone else's work?

Was called out to a job, which turned out to be to verify another electricians work, as the customer had fell into dispute with their electrician. Supposed to of completed a full rewire. Customer gave me his NICEIC installation certificate from the electrician that completed the work. Shocking was not the word for it, that was exactley what I got after touching the metal CU they had installed! Power off and opened up, still all old red & black wiring, certainly no way they had completed a rewire. Alot of the readings for the circuits would of failed the cert. RCD results recorded on 6 circuits ranged from 19 to 44 yet were all on the same RCD.

How do these guys get away with, yet alone sleep at night? I informed the customer to contact the NICEIC with the cert. These situactions are however never nice to get into, as we can only base our opinion on 1 side of the story

Niceic won't do a dicky bird about it if you have put it right.
Nic once told me if you report an install leave it as it is so we can get onto the electrician who did the work poorly.

Most the time it's rectified and they don't act so him, bob, dave down the pub carry on getting jobs

Told customer they have to give their Electrician the chance to correct the work, they wont have a hope in hell in court of getting their money back unless they let him back in or have at least give him the option to correct the work.

They did call me 2 days ago to come and correct the work, but I am booked out for 2 months so do not know how it ended with the other sparky

The phrase you need to know here is "Dont want to rock the boat" my mate was called in to a job via his Schemie and was asked to sort it out as the girl had a hadicapped child he said why dont you get that clown back or better still remove his registration until he sorts it to your standards na just dont want to rock the boat was the reply or in other words we expell him and we loose the membership fee funny old world indeed when you think that was the reason they started Schemes in the first place.
