First off I’m relatively new to this site and whilst studying ive have read through lots of threads, some really good answers, topics and banter .
Please could you guys give me some advice as i am planning to rewire my kitchen (i know its a notifiable location) .My current installation is approximately 5+ years old as is the CU and protective devices. My proposed install consist of the following :
· Cooker (Radial (existent))
· Fridge connection unit + Switched FCU (Radial)
· Freezer connection unit+ Switched FCU (Radial)
· Extractor (on lighting circuit)
· 3x 13A Sockets (Ring+spur (existent))
My copy of the guide to building regs is on route but for the moment please could anyone clarify the following points:
What are my chances that RCBOs will fit my existing 6-way consumer unit? (hager 5+ years old)as theyll be individually protected)
Cooker
Existent 45A cooker switch has a 13A outlet on it which is used for the gas hob igniter (so not a constant load) could the hob itself be wired on the load side of the switch?
Extractor hood FCU
does it require to be switched (and accessible-) for isolation? Will the supply of lighting cct suffice? (haven’t received it yet so don’t know the rating to calculate )
Is there any other issues Non-RCD protected radials for the under counter fridge and freezer other than protection of the cable? will chasing them in be sufficient as my proposed route is “outside protective zones” and not surface mounted? Is this the way you expireced guys would approach this or would you protect via individual RCD/RCBO?
As i understand is it a requirement of BS 7671 to have a switch above the worktop to control the socket-outlet below it can anyone confirm? -As they are for isolation for the fridge and freezer the switches will be visible from the worktop and i don’t want them being accidently switched off could they “hidden” in a overhead cupboard?
any help will be greatly appreciated
Cheers

Bit long winded to item it,so

Its good design to have a fridge/freezer on its own circuit, but, unless the circuit is surface wired it has to have rcd protection

There is no requirement for above worktop isolation, the equipment must have an accessable means of isolation, this could be a socket in an adjascent cupboard to the appliance

The hob ignitor could be wired off the load side of the cooker control, but a fused spur or socket would be required to derate the protection for the cable and load of the ignitor

The cooker hood is usually off the socket circuit and should have an accessable socket/fused spur

There are no" protective zones",the cables for any accessory/circuit need to be contained within permitted cable routes that are standard to an installation regardless of protection

Most mcbs can be removed and replaced with a suitable Rcbo
