Kitchen spurs

Just helped a friend rip out his old kitchen units we found that whoever fitted kitchen / spark had spurred 8 double sockets of one socket these sockets were feeding dishwasher , washing machine , freezer fridge by reading other post on here that's a big no.

by reading other post on here that's a big no.

Correct, unless he's installed a fused connection unit before the 8 spurs. You would then be limited to a maximum of 13A for the 8 'spurs' which, in a kitchen would be wholly insufficient IMO.

Much better to extend the RFC to incorporate these 8 additional S/O's.

On this subject, I have a question. I am just rewiring a kitchen and need to take a spur off one socket for the cooker hood and wanted to then continue from that to the under cupboard lighting. Am I right in thinking that as long as I make it a fused spur, it is OK? Also, do I need to have fuses for the cooker hood and for the under cupboard lighting or will one on the whole spur be OK?

Similarly, I need another spur for an extra two sockets, so do I need to one or two fuses here as well or just one between the two spurred sockets?

Does that all make sense? If you need more info, just ask.

Thanks,

Matt

1 fused spur can feed 2 outlets, so in both cases, each will only need 1 FCU. however, you need to consider what will be plugged in. is 13A enough for 2 sockets?

For the two sockets, one will be used for the fridge and the others for whatever is plugged into it (could be anything I suppose), so will I need to up the ampage of the fuse bearing that in mind or can you not go above 13A?

Ok, thanks - may then have to limit it to one spurred socket for the fridge and extend the ring. If it's just one socket, it doesn't need to be fused - am I right?

Don't worry - I know an electrician who has helped me up to now, but he's on holiday, so I thought I'd use the forum - no need to be so damning!

Yep, fair do's, which is why I've been doing this up until now with the help of an NICEIC accredited electrician. I don't want to hurt anyone either!

Am I right that if I have a spur with just one socket on it that I don't need to fuse the spur? I would wait till he gets back from holiday, but I need to get this done. I'm going to get him to check everything once he's back before I switch anything on, but hope you can help and thanks.
