haha , bet you got the pink one ya big pansy lol.
May I quote the song Everybody's free to wear sunscreen. "Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone."
To bloody right! I'm 39 and I had a double knee op last Nov. They would swell to twice their size and hurt so much I couldn't sleep. I eventually gave in and visited the doctor, a few months later and they'd been "repaired"!
They don't swell up anymore, or keep me awake with the pain, but they're definitely not "as good as new" like the doctor said they were going to be!
No gym, running, or too much kneeling for me anymore.
Morning Chaps,
Anyone else out there suffer from knee problems :icon9:, I'm guessing so....
If so any remedies/ cures/ suggestions would be appreciated. I've got the best snickers knee pads they do, and wear a decent knee support when it's really bad.
I'm only 38, god knows what they'll be like in 10 years time best I invest in a decent apprentice by then (thats the idea anyway.)
Really do like to try and keep fit a few times a week if poss: squash and cardio at gym... dont want to have to knock this on the head, no way!
Cheers
Sy
Haven't read the full thread so sorry if this is a repeat, but I'm talking from experience here, right the way through my 20s I had major knee problems (agony at some times, have had to tightly bandage my legs to stop any bending at all around the knee, and hobble around site lol). When I was about 28 I decided to make some simple changes and now I've had 3 years of next-to-no problems with my knees (touch wood). So....
1. When you say the best kneepads, do you mean strapped-up pads, or kneepad trousers? In my opinion, strapped pads are absolute rubbish and (to me) do more harm than good, because of the position they put your leg in when you kneel down, and also the tension required to keep them from falling down. Kneepad trousers are definitely the way forward, I use rather cheap pads, but because the pad is always over the knee, they work much better. This was the biggest change for me, and it was almost instant improvement.
2. Supplemements. Cod liver oil, one capsule every day. It's a bit 'old wives' but it really does work. Even my dad swears by them, and he's a 75 year old who was on the tools from 14 to about 55-60, and he thinks all types of medicine and all types of vegetable are 'for poofs'. Another one you might want to try is Turmeric. You can buy (quite expensive) tablets of it from holland and barret, or you can buy a (cheap) bag of the powder from an asian supermarket and suffer a teaspoonful a day (it tastes rank but it's only for a second!). It works well for me, it may not work for you.
3. SQUATTING! This one was a nightmare. If you have kneepads in your trousers, USE THEM. It's a bit of a vicious circle; you think you need to protect the knees so you don't kneel on them, but you end up squatting and hyperextending all the tendons and muscles and gooey stuff around the knee for long periods of time. Not good. After kneepads, this was the main culprit of my knee pain, so don't squat (bloody squatters).
If all else fails, you can always get a job teaching part p.........
Ive managed to get caught short this week with washing and Ive ended up using a pair of trousers with no knee pads - after taking up some floorboards today I'm not sure how I ever managed without them to be honest! Still aching now
