Do niceic also provide guidance/examples as when to issue one? I have never seen a bs7671 equivalent.

You're right, there is no BS7671 model form, always an old chestnut whether you should be walking away leaving an immediate danger but in cases where the client refuses etc. it can cover your ---!

Is there a particular form for this from any organisation or is it just something you write yourself?

i use easy cert they have a danger notification just like the NIC ones its realy good , i dont issue them very often but the house in question was wired in rubber that was in such a poor condition it was causing a short hence the blowing fuses , and to make it worse it had no earth connection at all as i said its was a bog roll cert

Napit have the same thing
They both have a box for the customer to sign
The customer will probably tell us where to stick it, if we asked them to sign

So you try to get them to sign it - they tell you where to go. So you leave them a copy and send an unsigned copy off to your scheme provider. Anything happen then? does it have any legal standing other than "don't blame me i told you it wasn't safe"

No legal standing whatsoever other than proving your duty of care.

Do you know,I couldn't answer that,so I got out my unused book of notices and had a peek
Nothing about logging the notice with Napit, just a warning to sparks, they have no authority to isolate without the owners permission and can be prosecuted if they did
I dont really know why I bought them

Well ill be honest if you issue one the installation has to be in a bad and dangerouse condition ,you issue one give a copy to the house holder that they have signed , the house holder may not want any work done to the house,we all get it , so where do you stand if you walk away some thing happens some one dies and the HSE are NIC etc are involved , and your name is mentioned , at least then you will have a copy of the notification on file which will prove you have advised them its dangerous, its a ill sue you world and unfortunatly we all have to cover our backs

Mmmh that seems really strange that you don't have to log it with your provider

You hear that the last place you worked at burnt down, so you quickly write out a danger notice and tell the investigating fire officer "i did tell him, i gave him one of these"...

I'm only talking hypothetically now chaps:D

funny you should say that. i once got asked to test the emer lights and fire alarm with another electrician. we issued a danger notice to them after the emer lights only sustained a 15 min charge and the fire alarm was turned off because it made a noise acording to the manager. the regional manager did offer us a little extra to sign it off. now if my name goes on a piece of paper i take it very seriously. if its not right it does not go on unless its a report on the condition etc. a few weeks later the place did burn down. i bet they didn`t show that report we gave him to the insurance company

Let's not forget that recently prosecuted guy up Manchester way. He was 'maintaining' a system which eventually came to question.

Signing things off means accepting liability.

a tutor at college once put it fairly straight forward and it stuck. "if you put your name to a wrong cert its as good as putting it above the cell door" kind of stuck and never forgotten. best thing he ever taught us the rest was dribble

And if an investigating fire officer started questioning the quality of the electrics the managers could deny ever having received a danger notice and even bring the sparks abilities into doubt. I would have thought the least the scams could do would be to provide a register to corroborate the thoughts and actions of their members.

there should be a place where we can issue the notices to. even if it were an email to the dno scheme member or similar. it then might be taken more seriously if they knew its not just in their hands but a traceable report that could bite them on the bum if anything went wrong after they ignored it

a very good point there phil. if DNO were given notice that an installation was unsafe they have the authority to disconnect, whereas we don't.

Phil thats a great point we pay our anual fee we get checked to see if we are doing are jobs right then if we have to issue a notice then were lost , ive just sent a sugestion to Elecsa to see if they could do it it cant be that hard easy enough to regester a job
