HI all, first post so "hello" I guess.

I am working on a desk lamp that uses a standard E26 socket, and uses a rotary dimmer switch to control the brightness and on/off of the bulb.

I have two questions:

1. Both of the LED rotary dimmers I bought on amazon only control the bulb brightness in the top 25% of the rotary motion. In other words, from the off position, you have to turn it about 75% of the way until the bulb turns on. I am using a 'dimmable' LED bulb. Any thoughts? just a bad dimmer? Or is there a different type I should use? Do I need an LED driver?

2. If I am using an LED bulb, what size wire can I run through the stem to the bulb? Do I need 16 ga. lamp wire or can I downsize because of the low volts of the bulb?

Any info appreciated! Cheers,
