Long nose pliers and start in a corner just enough to get it up so I can get my hand in. Then pull the bugger up

and a good old hammer and crowbar for the boards.

Well done 'confused-fuse' well traced, those are the two types i've used, the slide hammer type is a bit weighty but works well if you have a lot to do, and the mini one is great as a tool-box special. I'm afraid I wouldn't want anyone lifting the oak boards in my house with a 'screw-driver or crowbar'....... that sounds very pikey and unprofessional

Just as well the OP was asking about lifting carpets and not oak boards then.

It's getting it back down, dending on the orginal state of carpet I have used this one a few times before....

Long nose plyers and hands to get it up from the corners. to get it back down smooth it out with my hands, then use my bolster to get it over the gripper rod. it seems to pull it all tight. Along the door strips i use my stanley knife backwards.

For the cost of it I bought a carpet kicker a carpet chisel and a bradawl for putting the carpet back down again

I hope you all know how to use the carpet kicker as the teeth are adjustable and if they aren't set deep enough you'll tear a great chunk out of the face of the carpet.............

our company has a disclaimer in the quotes about carpets something like 'while our engineers have expierence lifting and re fitting carpets we can not guarantee refiting to the quality of a professional carpet fitter' we recommend the use of a professional carpet fitter to check the quality of the refitted carpet if you have any concerns',no doubt gets them out of any claims!!

Please never throw anything made by bahco (apart from their files mede in Portugal) I've always found them to be very well made and designed tools. They invented the adjustable spanner and because they didn't patent the direction of the tightener everyone else has them. Top engineering.

Is that right? Nice. I like Bahco because for some reason whenever I see their logo I think of some kind of surf-wear company. 'Bahco wetsuits - narlyer than narly'.

Agree Bahco are top tools, but what's wrong with the files, I've had no probs!

i just get my snips in the corner of the shag and pull the corner up , never apply to much force or you WILL damage the carpet, but if your carfull its a good method
