lighting circuit identifying earth on old wires

Hi all.

Am trying to replace switches and wall leights and ceiling lights i have identified live and neutral (black and red)but what appears to be the earth is a grey colour also its not wired to the earth terminal but to one of the Com connectors. Does this mean that there is no earth wiring or has it been wired wrong, could really do with a quick response please help

if i dont use any metal fitting ie switches sockets or pendants and use plastic will it be ok to use plastic without the cpc many thanks eveyone first time here and the advice is brilliant cant thank you enough

it definetly needs a re-wire and your right about the board the prblem is the current fitting are metal just want to make safe before the re-wire

In my opinion mate,i would get the property rewired.Is it your property or are you doing work there.

If you are only swapping like for like,i wouldn't put any metalwork up because of no earth.But you need to tell your mate that the house probably needs rewired.Bit belated,but welcome to the forum mate

be care full there may be no earth. I hacve see the old wiring in houses 30 years + where all lights are done in 1.5 double insulated singles and going back to a big joint box.
