I know what you're saying but for polarity you are supposed to confirm that single-pole devices etc. are connected in the line conductor only. Therefore you need to operate the switches etc. and also the centre pin of bayonet cap lampholders.

Then there's not much point to inspection, testing and certification if you just "know" that you've done it right.

The R1R2 test is not there to proove polarity only to proove the earth is present and at a reasonably suitable value, hence having the option of doing an R2 test only. There is always the choice of R2 only test but this does involve a rather long earth lead which can be difficult in some situations and this is why the R1R2 was developed as a means to make the testing more practical. Surely with this in mind the RnR2 will do just as well for a test in this situation, particularly if speed is an issue. I would not use the R1R2 test to proove polarity as such, it may just end up being a way of prooving it in the end, but there are better ways of prooving polarity than that.

You could take an R2 reading of course, but it means that you will then need to prove polarity separately. So connect your wander lead to the line conductor and operate switches and single pole devices, check centre-pins of Edison Screw lampholders etc.

Probably would have saved time by killing two birds with one stone by using continuity test method 1.

Is that the Ashley Klik system with a plug connector with angled pins? I have seen it and it seems a good idea, useful for time saving later on etc, though havent used it.

Is it any good and what do would you say the best or worse bits with it are?

Klik got bought out by Hager like Ashely did. Greg rose is another term as you say, take your pick . They are great if your just looping in and out with the neutral and switchline, they can be a nightmare if you try 3 plating them but thats usually just the first one if it hasn't been fed straight from the switch bank.

The down side of them is the *****ing cost, especially the prewired. I cant see that they should be any more than a double socket in construction but are over twice the cost......... thieving *****

Yes I agree when you compare the prices of stuff it does raise the question of 'why the rip off?' I suppose it is down to the usual supply and demand thing. The more competition the lower the price (or should be at least) or the greater the build numbers.

Hopefully the prices will be reasonable (in the customers eyes).

4 pin click/greg/whatever, with the two lives in a choccy block/wago.
Anything else is a bit of a waste of time (unless you cant get to the greg of course).
Either that, or stick both live's in the same terminal in the PIR.
