lighting joint boxes

Hi Guys, Another little query for those of you that do new house installs. Not practical nowadays to wire light circuits via loop in systems due to modern day downlight recessed fittings and or light fittings designed for 1 cable!
If using joint boxes, lets say in a roof space, therefore accessible for maintenance (although i'd rather not use any anywhere) what type do most of you use? Bearing in mind several cables to be terminated. Years ago I would of used a RB4 joint box with a strip of connectors inside . RB 4 (if correct term( was a square box that basically sandwiched the connection strip, choc block as some call them.

If you dress the cables in neatly they stay in place. I should try the tape it sounds less of a faf than my way.

All electrical enclosures are IP rated, its not enough just to say IP rated as that could be anything from IP1X to IP68.

Good point raised there - it seems to have become common practice to use 'IP rated' as meaning waterproof these days. Daz

Excuse my ignorance but is there not a reg stating that connectors ie wagos now must be fixed in the box or was i just taught good practice? If using choc boxes the connectors could clip in (usually ;-), and if using an adaptable box i silicon them in

That reg is only for connectors using screw terminals. So yes choc blocks should be secured, but wago's or crimps etc don't necessarily need fixing

Can you point me to the reg number for this. I have heard this lots but never been referenced to a reg. Usually comes up with neutral joints behind switches.

I can remember reading a thread on here a bit back, whereby a NICEIC inspector pulled up an electrician for having a neutral floater terminal behind a light switch. I don't really know by today standards weather that is acceptable or not.

Yep, heard of it a lot from NICEIC inspectors, never found the reg for it though.

Yeah I'm a WagoBox man. Cuts installation time dramatically!

You're right I like using Wagoboxes so quick and reliable, where there are many cables I just use two or more boxes often more efficient. If avoiding boxes I often loop feeds into switch boxes bit more cable though.
