I did some work for a friend of mine where i installed some low energy lighting in the form of standard downlighters. Basically GU10 low energy lamps. 2 switched circuits with 6 on each switch. within about 3 days 2 of the blubs went off so check it out and it was the blubs. spoke to screw fix where he got them from and they said sorry they must be faulty and sent another 2. within a couple of weeks these went as well. he then put LED GU10's in . these worked for about 2 months and have gone again. it seems to be the same 2 that keep blowing. all the rest are ok. any ideas what it could be ?

Thanks

Paul:mad:

i had similar with a gu10 led lamp. It blew within a couple of hours, replaced the lamp and it went again a few hours later (the same fitting, out of 10 in total). Too much of a coincidence so I changed the gu10 lead and lamp and its been fine since

Some times you can get faulty lamp holders that can cause this ,but the main probability is poor quality lamps , another reason if you have a room above and some one walks across where the lights are can also cause the lamps to fail as most lamps when the filament is hot its very fragile especialy with cheap lamps buy some good quality philips / megga man etc and try again

could be how ther installed they need so much air flow and the insulation guys just cover them up an when you read in the press that they have been recorded and reaching over 100 degree C its no wonder they dont last long , if they have loads of air they will last longer ,

yeh the blister on my pinkies can vouch for them being hot. once used a thick cotton napkin to remove one that must have just gone out. popped it on the table when i turned round it had started the first sages of smoking :eek: never did that again, although i still get the fingers burned bloody things
