Good evening guys and girls.

A friend of mine has had a log burner recently installed in his home. Other than just heating his lounge it is also going to do the hot water. For this reason there is a pump located behind it which obviously needs power. To get to the pump the cable would have to be clipped to a wall behind the heater. There is a gap of about 8-10 inches between the heater and the wall. Just wondering what your thoughts would be on cable type to get to the pump. Would you use a heat resistant flex or FP or other?

Not sure what the temp will be behind the burner. Will have to ring the manufacturer to find out.

Cheers

Butyl is rated to 85~, isn't there any possibility of routing the cable for the pump another way or moving the pump?

I wish there was but that is the only option. The floor is accessible but the burner is fitted already and sits on a brick base. below which is solid concrete. Due to the location of the pump no matter where i run the cable i will end up in that gap behind it.

If it's up & running you can always measure the temperature then you'll know!!

Yes am leaning towards that route.

will pop round when hes and get him to fire it up and measure the temp. will be less painful than phoning the manufacturer i think.

Good lad! Now you're getting the hang of it! :hurray:

By the time you'v waited for your call to be answered then you're passed around like a parcel at a kids party until you finally get to speak to somebody and then find you get the wrong answer anyway you may as well have measured it yourself in the first place!!

Personally I’d move the pump away from the boiler. The pump and cabling won’t be excessively over heated and would be hidden from view.

I’m surprised our resident geordie wet head didn’t suggest that.

Geordie didn't mention it because Geordie thought it was such an obvious thing to do that it must have been already considered and dismissed for some reason.

But Geordie forgot he was trying to educate a shower of sparks who seem to have an obsession with overcomplicating the simplest of things - including their own Internet Forum........
