I'm trying to source a type of gland we used to use many years ago on commercial appliances. It's a standard 20 or 25mm gland for a trailing cable but it has a stiff stainless steel criss-cross very loosely woven wire assembly on the back of it that assists the bend radius of the cable where it leaves the appliance. They were quite long, possibly between six inches and a foot.

I don't know if you've ever seen those joke finger handcuffs. It's like a woven tube you can push your finger in and when you try to pull free it tightens. Well those glands were like that but using s/steel wire instead.

If anyone knows an international supplier or even just the proper name for these glands I'd be very grateful.

Thanks for the suggestion but not exactly. That gland has a tightly wound spiral, the one I'm looking for is a very loose criss-cross type of wrap that actually grips the cable more if it's pulled.

Thanks for the suggestions, I trawled the sites linked above but drew a blank.

I made a sketch in the hope someone recognizes it.

That's almost the thing there Topquark, that's the stainless steel sock type thing, I just need to find a gland that incorporates it.

I know they used to be available off the shelf but that was about 15 years ago. I'm wondering if there was a new fandangled alternative design that took their place.

Have a look at the next page on in the catalogue from where that the picture came from (on my pdf browser it shows as physical page 21). There are a host of sizes of sock with ring attached that look like they are intended to go in a gland.

could you not modify that(ie butcher) and fit a swa gland on the end

Lol butcher/modify is my middle name when the need arises. You probably could use this one and cut the ring off. Depending on the thickness of the wires it might go in an SWA gland.

I'm still holding thumbs that there's a ready-made one available. I'm sure I'm not the only person who's used these in the past.
