As per the title really I’m looking for a multifunction tester but unfortunately I’ve not got the funds for the Megger or Fluke.

Any recommendations under £500, second hand or new.

Thanks.

Cheers I did look at that one but it doesn’t look in the best nick. I appreciate it doesn’t hamper the performance but I’m quite OCD like that.

I take it buying an MFT with an up to date calibration cert Is a must, if not you could be buying one that doesn’t work, is this the case or have I got this wrong.

if you buy one without calibration, you're taking the chance that it's not accurate, or even faulty. best to be sure. the kewtech is OK, but i prefer megger as no.1 and fluke as no.2, the megger is top for me as you don't need to press a test button for continuity or loop tests.also has auto RCD test. all you need to do is set to auto, connect to circuit, press "test" and stan by RCD and reset 4 times. then back to the megger and read off the stored times. saves a lot of time.

If you are OCD buy a proper tester. If you can't buy it now wait. I think what happens is we are prepared to compromise on what is needed to get a quick answer. Trouble is when you really get on site and on the job you find you wish you had more functionality. Then you have to buy the thing you wanted in the first place. Of course you also think if only I had not wasted my money I would be so much closer to what I want. £500 can get you a megger 1731 brand new on Ebay. Fully calibrated. Not my choice personally, having tried it, but the de facto choice/mft. Kewtech is my choice from the KT63 to the KT65. Depends on what work you do. Testing on loads of sockets commercial setting the Di-log my colleague had kept overheating so we had to keep stopping til it cooled. So think about what you want your mft to do, and the extras you get with it.
