136.4 ohms at lights whilst doing the loop test before we change the board. Guessing they've been lucky ? Plus side is I get to put an earth stake in were see how much I remeber from the one I did 2 years ago

How is banging in a earth rod out of my depth. Pick hammer up bang in ground. I don't think my questions help but they do me. I'm not mad keen to pick up a book and read about all things electrical which is obviously my biggest downfall. I'll never be able to compete with someone like that unless I'm shown the right way to do something every single time regardless of cost or time and encounter every possible scenario that I might come across multiple times as I'm pretty much monkey see monkey do and then I just store the information. Can't see why I can't just ask my questions and get taught from the answers of here.

For goodness sakes, don't start ----ing in front of the monkey cage at the zoo.

you should not be left alone to try and work things out for yourself if you don't feel confident in your work.

Eh, if as he states he holds C&G 2330 he should be more than capable of working general things out himself, or something is very wrong with the technical training system in the UK!!

Shaddup the lot of you! ;)

I've had this guy out working with me for a day a couple of months back. And considering he had only done domestic work before that day I was suitably impressed with the way he kept up with me on the last setup day of a small music festival.
Keeping up with me doing my best juggling act is no easy task!

I also have had a run-in with the outfit he is working for in the distant past, and I can guarantee that is where all his problems are stemming from. They have quite a bit in common with British gas!

He is a decent bloke who is willing to learn and just needs the opportunity to work with a decent electrician, and ideally out of the domestic sector for a while.

If I was in a position to take him on on a regular basis I happily would, but when half of my work is outside of the electrical installation world and every spare penny is tied up in another business venture I just can't do it at the moment.

All we can do Dave is go on what the guy says. The monkey see monkey do comment and his implied unwillingness to get his nose in a book won’t endear him to people in general.

You obviously have seen a side to him that we haven’t.

I must have missed some post's because I thought the general census within the thread was that it is not the op's fault but his excuse of a Boss.
How old are you 1st fix and where the hell is Frimley!

Cheers Dave I appreciate that mate, you've given me some credibility there which is more then I seem to be able to portray. Who ever does get trained up by you over the future years is going to do ok for sure, plus you a nice bloke so someone's going to do well.

Hi GMES Frimley is near Guildford or 40 mins from town (London) except for a Friday when it seems to be half an hr in and 3 hrs out

A point worth remembering is clay can work in 2 ways,if you have a layer of clay then yes it will hold water in the soil above it,however this soil will dry out in hot weather thereby increasing the resistance, however if you penetrate the clay by using a longer rod very often you will find the soil below it is permenantly damp giving a lower resistance.

Not sure if post #61 was a thank you or sarcasm,
I suspect the latter
my point was that nobody can expect things on a plate you want this go and get it, sure its not easy and I do symphasise with your situation , I've been there so I thought I was giving you some good advice based on experience
re the comment about being in the wrong trade, read your post again and ask yourself seriously what reaction you thought you'd get.
This job is technical and you won't learn everything on site just the same as you won't learn everything in a classroom!
