May sound like a strange question. Is it necessary for the main cut-out fuse to be locate next to the meter? The reason for my question, I was looking to move my meter to the other side of the wall and was given a rough price of ÂŁ700 to move the service head (about 3 feet away).

If the meter could be placed on the other side of the wall and the service head left in place, this could solve all my problems.

The only people allowed to move your meter are the DNO or Supply Company, if you move the meter yourself or you get an elcectrician to move it, they will prosicute you.
Meter should be located as close as posible to the cutout / main fuse.

Hope this is helpful

you may have the authority but whos more qualified pal!!!

I just looked at Metermans post and it seemed reasonable enough to me

No dispute with that statement whatsoever

That may happen,if they become aware that the the work was carried out by others, not guarenteed

.It seems you are in a strong position to provide the sensible advise
We people working on the load side should sometimes respect the skill that gets the supply to us in the first instance :flowers:

We had our own estate supplied from the works. About 60 square miles, which was taken over by the DNO (Electricity board NWEB and EMEB then).

The cut-outs were very useful for the odd “foreigner” job that came along. Around the area I would guess 50% of household supplies would be OH. Surprising how many supplies got up rated. All with the correct DNO seal. (That’s another story)!

If the customer would pay we would fit these new “fangled RCCD’s”.
Crabtree or Hackbridge Faraday 500mA. State of the ark then! Earth rods went missing from stores as well.

sedgy, cut you're losses and stop making a fool of yourself

you may have a fair point, however my experience with metering tell me otherwise they dont know what they are doing. had a meter guy once ask me that is 3 phase isnt it!!!! also on another job a meter guy energised a new installation to check if electric was on!!! see where im coming from tony.
these examples carry on 2day course and you can go and mess with 100amps (authorised by supplier)
allbeit this guy is far more experienced than most
