hi all

now i have worked in comercial for a number of years also done a lot of domestic with my boss ect.

now i have been asked to wire up a main power/ generator switch in order to provide the property in emergancy cases..

i have been provided with me switch and has the following terminals

MAINS GENERATOR
L1 L2 L3 N L1 L2 L3 N

now the question i have is

how to wire the main supply

if you wire the incoming supply in to this switch and then from the main side to the CU........

when the switch is turned to the gen side it would then send 415V back up to the supply and back through the DNO meter

any one ever done one of these b4?

as i know on here some will say if your not competent dont do it lalala but i know i am just need help on this matter as this is a help forum

thanks

Im with TONY asking the forum for help on general issues is ok but something as serious as this Id seek help even if its just to check and make sure you have connected correctly as you could cause serious back feeds and damage to persons or property not least the genny

as tony's excellent diagram. what you have is basically 4 2way switches, interlinked, so as to prevent any feeds between DNO supply and genny, and vice versa.

What Tony has shown in his diagram is the minimum you would expect from a 4 pole change over switch. Most change over switches also incorporate an ''off'' position too. to isolate both supplies from the load.

Hi jiga

Have you spoke to the chap yet , that made this ?
I would like to know how he explained it away , also I take it that this is not his first so there are more out there !:frown2:

Ive fitted loads if genny hook up points, and they're on a castell system as mogga said. The bigger permanent ones we use on bigger sites use electronic changeover. So the supply MCCB/acb is open before the genny one is allowed to close. I think I prefer mechanical interlocks. No problems and little possibility of mess ups.
