maintain building structure homework

i got some home work last week that has to be in on tuesday but i am not sure about 1 question it says
"during installation of the main trunking system various amounts of cutting and drilling through the building structure is required. describe 2 ways in which the fabric and structural integrity of the building can be maintained "
i d not have a clue what to put on this question can any one guide me to the right answer

I'm not really the person to have a go at this one being non-UK but I gather there's some regs somewhere about where you can and can't drill joists.

Given the question, I'd expand on that and say Part 527 is a little more relevant.

To the OP check section 1.2 of your OSG and consider the Building Regulations. Why you are required to maintain the fabric of the building should scream out at you, so given each influence a solution should naturally follow.

bassically its to stop the spread of fire.

never mentioned it at college but noticed it during own research.

in boxes etc people use a kind of putty.


if you have a look online there is plenty of info.


bassically each floor needs to be sealed to slow the spread off fire.


in a house the plaster acts as the fabric off the building which slows the spread from room to room.


when drilling holes we usually fill it with fire rated sillicon. people usually call it mastic (there is different ratetings for it i belive but i could be wrong)


take nothing ive posted as gospel as a lot of it is the conclusion i came to myself.

im sure there will be info in your coursebook
