I like the malts mainly from the Granton on Spey area, especially Dallas Dhu.
Also like Penryn, distilled in Wales. The Irish whiskies are also nice on the palate.
I'm not keen on the peaty malts from the western isles.
I'm half way through a bottle of Balvinie at the mo.

once found a bottle that had been sitting on a back shelf for 40 years. (seal had the date punched into it) only recognized it by the shape of the bottle. (very thick layer of dust)

I haven't had a decent bottle of single malt in the house for ages. When I do it's usually Glenmorangie, as it's the only whiskey the missus can stand.
I love a good Islay although Laphroaig is not my favourite. Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, and Bruichladdich are definitely worth a sniff.

A pub favourite is Highland park, preferably 18 years old, also Jura and Talisker.

Penderyn, the Welsh one is also a good tipple, Yamazaki is a good Japanese single malt, and Glenfarclas is a stunning drink, but not easily found.

Some of the names mentioned reminded me of how many distillery tours I have done over the years. Regularly scuba dived off Islay in the eighties and we always made time for a tour or two and the obligatory tasting then there is the Orkneys and Scapa Flow and quite a few other Scottish locations that have a distillery nearby

Just got home from my first day back, it struck me how stressed I was after listening to the HR department waffling on about a phased return, Jeeze I only work 2.5 days a week, still a Laphroaig worked wonders now the inane drone of some 18 year old telling me I should take it easy and not over do it is a distant memory, ohh time for a refill methinks
