Hi guys,

im in doing a rewire in an old listed building sitting on 7 acres of land. About 190 meters away at the end of the garden they are going to put a temple type of pavilion so the daughter can get married there next year. Now of course they've decided they want lighting there. They're happy to dig the trench etc but I've never done anything with a run that big before. To get a 6a supply down there would require 10 mm swa. Is there anything anyone can think of I would need to bear in mind? Or any other suggestions to get over this? They've ruled out a generator or solar..

Thanks

Volt drop is 4.6% for a 6 a supply. These are the sort of people to have a full brass band not a stereo!

If they are "the sort of people to have a full brass band" then I assume they have the brass to put in a decent supply I suggest you spell out to the customer exactly what a 6A supply will deliver then let them decide if it is enough

Tbh, why paint yourself into a corner? If its a big budget job, which by the sounds of it it is, run a 16 or 25 in. Its an extra few pounds on the job. Remember you only need to use 2c, not 3.

And, as has already been said, its not just your VD at that length, watch for your Zs, too.

That was supposed to be a quote to Tony's post lol. Brides can be funny , especially rich ones.

Brides are a total pain in the arse. They’ll still be changing their minds up until the last minute, only ever had one do a runner though.

I still think the OP is mad if he thinks he can pre-empt what will be asked for. When he can’t deliver his name will be mud.

A few lights will soon become a full lighting rig. Seen it happen a few times and because it was known I’m an electrician they seem to think I could get them out of the smelly stuff.

If these people are rich enough to afford this , then Its not going to cost a massive amount more for 16 or 25 mm as already suggested , I wouldn't tell them they could go for 10mm or whatever I would just state that is whats needed and that way you cover yourself for later on ,

I took the OP's post about RCD protection to be about the light circuit and not the armoured cable...
