Hi guys,

im in doing a rewire in an old listed building sitting on 7 acres of land. About 190 meters away at the end of the garden they are going to put a temple type of pavilion so the daughter can get married there next year. Now of course they've decided they want lighting there. They're happy to dig the trench etc but I've never done anything with a run that big before. To get a 6a supply down there would require 10 mm swa. Is there anything anyone can think of I would need to bear in mind? Or any other suggestions to get over this? They've ruled out a generator or solar..

Thanks

Not ignoring anything Andy. Lack of info at the moment. All I've been told is there is a temple and they want lighting in it. It may well come pre wired I have no idea right now. I fo agree with an upgraded supply but there's a bit more to just doing the work. All the info comes from the owner through a QS then a site agent the me. Then all the way back again to get an answer. Some people on here just seem to jump down people's throats for the sake of it. But most are quite helpful with their comments

Er no. If you had included the content in this post in the original one you wouldn't have got as much flack as you have. :hammer:

The last thing you would want to use is any form of vehicle to pull cable in. As Tony quite rightly pointed out you are more than likely to stretch or otherwise damage the cable than not!! A cable pulling winch with an appropriate adjustable clutch is the only acceptable mechanical means of pulling a cable in. Even then cable rollers will be needed over that sort of distance or the sheath is going to get damaged, guaranteed.

Last but not least, is to ensure the trench floor is free of sharp stone or other debris, and the use of soft sand or sifted material to line the floor and backfill at least a third of the depth of the trench, unless you use a suitable heavy wall gage duct....

I was not seriously condoning the use of a landrover to pull cables in to anything, removing a dead cable from the ground is another matter entirely.

However my landrover and positive attitude have removed many stuck vans and a 7.5 tonne lorry from fields, a few tree stumps from a mates garden, dead trees from roads, a car from a pond, and various other things.

It's easy to forget sometimes that people reading your posts don't necessarily know you well enough to see the joke in such comments.

I wonder how the OP would go on if it was a big run?

People just don’t look in the manufacturer’s specification for minor things like cable weight.
Another member of the forum was with me when we had a young guy confidently tell us that he’d supervise his two lads pulling a cable in and getting it on to the traywork. Only a mere 1¼Ton each, they’ll manage that in a couple of hours.
We legged it, never to return.
