Good afternoon all, firstly im pretty rubbish at cable calcs. My question is this, the load on the circuit is 6.6kw for a outdoor ev charger so the cable would be clipped direct. Using 4mm NYY cable is ok subject to the cable length, any ideas on the maximum cable length before having to use 6mm. All suggestions/advice greatly received :drunk:

Its not a worrying statement at all. Nearly all circuits installed are the standard types, ie ringfinals on 32A, lighting on 6A, cookers on 32A if 6mm and 40A/45A if 10mm, it was a simple question which I hoped would be easily explained to me rather than now feeling hacked off and getting my on site quide out and working it out myself. which I will now do using the relevant formula on page 139 and subsequent pages to get the correct answer. I thought a forum was for discussions and to help others. Very disappointed.......

Oh my god, you mean you'll have to work out the cable calculation yourself, I bet your disappointed you cant get someone to do all the so called hard stuff. Isn't life unfair, hey would you like me to send you some money, lazy sod

ffs ! no-one has to do any ****in "calcs" , its in the OSG !
all worked out for you !

just use the figures given for a cooker circuit , its the same 32A supply as your car charger.

you do have an on site guide dont you ?
i know its a massive chore to open a book , read a page and all that.
whats wrong with these poeple ?
i swear someones gonna get an all mighty thread ripping tonite if things dont buck up.

ev as in electric vehicle?

there's been a recent update to the regs on EV charging circuits. I don't fit em, so don't know what it says, but would suggest you should check it out prior to fitting it.

ps, re volt drop calcs, I'd think the customer for an EV is unlikely to be into wasting energy, and it will be used daily for large amounts of energy flow, so personally I'd be working to 1% losses or lower.

I doubt they'd be too impressed to find out that it was costing them 5% extra to charge their car up every time because the spark wanted to save a few quid by using the cheapest cable they could get away with.

think you have to dissassociate the earthig from the house and TT the charger. need to have a look at the amendment.
something like that - I was refraining from commenting on the contents as I've only skimmed it, and made a mental note to read it in detail if / when someone asks us to install one.

Very true, thankyou Snowhead for your link, very handy tool. And I think this thread is going very ---- now, to suggest that most circuits installed aren't common cable sizes/breaker sizes is ridiculous.Take that how you want to.
these types of comments are tedious son...

i mean do you even have BS7671?

its all in there.....go look at it...

I am starting to understand things now, a person comes on here asks a basic question, because I presume they either they don't know the answer or can't be bothered to work it out, then when they get a few responses they don't like, they get the --- on and storm off.
Have I got it about right

that's the way I see it
