That's not a bad idea actually. Those 4 doubles are just fed from a 13a FCU the other side of the wall so would be easy to cut it.

The smokes I use are Aico Ei166RC, ive got one in every room of the house at present.

I don't know as haven't looked into it, but could I use the signal wire from it maybe? Just a thought? But I would still need a neutral to match it which would be a problem I suppose. Have you any ideas how it may be achieved?

Good idea though, I like that.
I think aico do a volts free relay module that fits to the unit (You best check on that) .. just run your socket supply through a contactor and have the coil operated by the detector relay- dependent on how it resets you may need to fit a contactor with start stop buttons and run the stop circuit through the smoke, that way it wont energise automatically if smoke clears and alarm stops .. Tazz might know more about what is available and how they work , if you find one let us know and Ill point you in the right direction to setting it up.

The Aico relay bases de energise when the alarms stop ringing so you could end up in a bit of a circle.

Alarm goes off, relay cuts power to sockets, burning stops (hopefully!), smoke dissipates, alarm stops, relay re energises, power to batteries is restored.
if you can have a manual start after the relay has activated, that would be best!

If thats the case then he can use a standard contactor in enclosure complete with start stop buttons, the stop circuit goes through the relay and when it re-energises after clearing and resetting and closes it need you to press the start button to bring the contactor back on - he will need a contactor anyway so he buys on complete with start/stop enclosure ;)

Spot on really. You will just have to hope that the batteries/shelving aren't already in flames by the time the detector picks it up. You could always mount a multi sensor on the bottom of the shelf above the batteries although looking at how small that shelf is, you may loose a lot of space that way and you will probably end up with a cool spot a the top of the shelf so wouldn't activate quickly. Ideal way would be aspirating detection over that shelf but i think thats slightly over the top lol

Thanks for the ideas, I was always planning on mounting one on the underside of the shelf in with that batteries as there is enough space.

ill look at the start stop button idea, that's good.

I've just thought, I could somehow connect the smokes relay base in to my pyrobix alarm system, not sure how but at least if it did then go off whilst out, I would instantly know about it.

No, that's just a box with two buttons in it.
Pick up an off the shelf dol starter from your wholesaler and connect the relay base into the stop circuit.
All the ones I've used have had the stop button incorporated in the overloads so you'll probably need them too but just get one rated at/above 13A and it shouldn't interfere.

Contactor in an enclosure with any old non-latching switch on the outside as a start switch. Use one of the poles of the contactor as a self hold via the normally closed of the smoke alarm relay.

Yes your right but just order one without overload and wire to the to 4pole as retaining ... ÂŁ20 cheaper :8:

Hi,

Just thought id share with you my newly made MCB storage setup and charging station.

I just need to fit a smoke detector in the charging station so that I can leave batteries unattended whilst on charge as in the garage.

Also, some photos of the lights I have just fitted to the side of the house today whilst im off sick with Chicken Pox. The ones down the side and round the back are on 3x PIR flush in the soffit. The front ones are controlled from the photocell down the side.

Good point, taking it a bit further a 2 pole contactor in a box and a retractive switch or push button would work. Might even be able to come up with those parts from rummaging through the shed, then there's even more money spare to buy cider :)
