Does anyone else have ones of these? If so, have you mastered the blue-tooth transfer function?

I'm having problems getting my head around it.

I'm using windows XP wih a USB blue-tooth adapter.

Any help would be GREATLY appriciated!

Thanks,

WS

I would hope that someone from Megger is listening to the normal working spark. Don't get me wrong, I love the ruggedness of my 1730, and have always had Megger equipment. I do confess though that I have been left feeling a little bewildered by the casualness in which I was told that I have to decide myself whether to use 2-wire or 3-wire testing on no-trip, as results may not be accurate!
I need to KNOW that what I am reading is correct, not guess.

Hello WelshSparks

Sorry you are struggling with the Bluetooth feature on your MFT1730. Please contact out Tech Support Department on 01304 502102 and we will be happy to talk you through the procedure.
Megger does monitor forums but with so many we do sometimes miss them or find them late. It is always best to contact us directly on [email protected] with any query so that we can sort it out as quickly as possible.
Please also be assured that we listen to customer feedback and endeavour to produce testers that are easy to use and do what electricians want. The MFT1700 series is a case in point where we have made several updates since its launch based on customer feedback.
Apart from the phone number and email address above anybody is welcome to talk directly with us at one of the many events we attend every year in the UK which can be found on our website. In 2011 we spoke face-to-face with over 10,500 customers in this way.

Kind Regards

Megger Technical Support

well i`v heard mixed reports in here before about these 1700s.....look, mines an old CM200 which does all the tests you need.....it doesn`t do a low current Zs but who cares?...not me as i just wire out the RCD....its fast n all....on both Zs and continuity....blows my boss`s metrel away for speed.....

Glenn, how do you tackle the problem of DIN rail RCD's such as is fitted to the Starbreaker CU's?
I have found the 1730 to be accurate on 3-wire no-trip tests but not on 2-wire. I have tried to get a definitive answer from Megger but to no avail.
Perhaps the Megger support guy on this forum can tell me why it's advertised as a 2-wire no-trip unit but it clearly doesn't give accurate readings.....please.

I'm beginning to wonder if my faith in Megger was justified, and whether I should have gone with a Fluke.

I hope the Megger lad read my post re the carry case above as I have said I am not having a pop I like my 1553 but I dont like the case and this is where I think they their product down so my advise is bite the bullet and redesign the case (mines is in the garage if anybody wants it) plus I know a few guys who have Flukes and I asked them what was their reasons for buying it and they said the case as they could put all their bits and bobs in it plus use it as a seat at the DB.

Are you listening Megger

I have to agree with you oldtimer. The case looks like something my old B&Q drill came in years ago, but I was more concerned with the product at the time.
Yep well I was the same I compared the Fluke and Megger and to be honest there was not much between them although a guy I knew banged on about the fluke carry case being the bonus and at the time I just thought he was Fluke blind but a year later and going up 3 flights of stairs with my small toolbox my Megger case and the bag that held on the bits and peices in it the Megger case was banging against my leg all the way up the stairs. I met him and said lets have a look at teh case i then put my 1553 in it and said where do i sign up so went on line and for ÂŁ28 I had bought one funny thing is if I had known how much hassle ther was with the Megger case ie tucking cables in whilst try to close it I probably would have opted for the Fluke but then again everybody thinks I have one now

Have to agree it's about time they brought out a better case. Squashing the cables in really narks me too. Unfortunately I guess their way too busy trying to get the 1700 series to work before they can think about a swanky case. However if MeggerTSG is too be believed "Please also be assured that we listen to customer feedback and endeavour to produce testers that are easy to use and do what electricians want." they might well now bring out a case for us people that don't have 4 pairs of hands to carry our tools around.

And, if Megger are listening, any chance of a 1730 that works, straight out of the box?

Got my 1730 back a couple of days ago!! they aparently updated the firm ware..
case still has one clip missing. that poped off on firstday when I attempted to close it) thought they would have at least cliped a new one on!
Stuck it on our calerbration box.. 0.45 local. 1.29 at +1ohm then 1.37. then 1.45.. I originally sent it to them for random earth loop readings. tested using diffrernt leads, same problem...
Phoned megger gona get a call back monday.. really I need to use my test equipment. Our company has the NIC inspection in a months time, Im suposed to be the QS!! really could do with brushing up espesially as the firmwares changed and it seems a bit diffrent...
oh well lets see what happens monday..

PS funny thing is our company employs 23 people, and have been looking at updating all their test equipment. (Not 23 but at least 10).
May end up looking at fluke, which was my last tester and i liked it a lot... saying that i do like the 1700 series, But its things like the leads, the case and at the moment random readings!!

I feel for you mate. The worst thing about a tester is that you have to trust it without actually "seeing" what it is reading. It's a complete case of trust, and if you don't completely trust your meter then it's like driving with a blindfold on. Hope it gets sorted out for you.

firstly...the CM200 is an old model....late 90s i think.....it doesn`t do a 2 wire loop....just the traditional method.....the point i was getting at is its quicker than Leigh`s metrel at both low ohms and IR....
When it comes to RCDs i just bridge em with some 2.5mm CSA wire i drag out of some old stuff we strip out.....i just break it out of the grey whenever i need it....or i will use calculation.....prefer to get a direct measurement of Zs though....but thats just me.....and i cant believe that at 21:22 one of the neighbours has got a bloody stihlsaw going.....
