Went to a job today to fit new sw spur for cooker hood extract and supply eic cert for the ring I worked on. While I was there a guy was stood in the kitchen marking out the walls for sockets . The lady told me he was a local odd job man who is also tiling the wall . She said our company were to expensive to do the lot so he will do the rest . They only wanted me to do the extract and provide a cert which then allows our Fitters to plug in the appliances.I asked the guy if he had part p and he said he never heard of it. I then told the customer who couldn't care less. While the cowboy was just about to spur off the socket 3 times I told him to leave all the work until I've finished testing. What more can you do ?

its a kitchen its Notifiable then it isnt there an option for you to Notify someone doing work when they shouldnt? specialy as the home owner now has a cert with YOUR Name on it

Couldnt you put something in the comments box that the cert is invalaid if installation is tampered with in any way shape or fashion and take photos of work YOU have carried out?

Yeah, you'll have to issue a cert so better do that before he corrupts the work you've done. If you've warned the client then there's not much more you can do and as i= says they'll go ahead and do it anyway.

Well you want to make sure you cross out every area of the certificate that you haven't written in for a kick off.

I would have told the customer that you are obliged to report any work you know happening that should be notified, and that she is the person who is responsible. No wonder the guy was cheaper than you, he's working without regsitration and I seriously doubt if he has any public liability insurance.

I bet he has a up to date calibrated volt stck or Neon Tester to carry out the range of tests needed.

minor works wouldn't cover the job , I had to wire new spur off the ring in the kitchen.

For a spur from an existing circuit a meiwc is normally all that is needed along with notification.

A spur can be done on a minor works as it is not a new circuit, it needs notifying under part p though. Then make sure the householder, the council and everyone else you can know he should not be allowed near copper cables.

Im with mogga, can't be dealing with domestic not only does it mean clouting walls day in day out you have to deasl with awkward people who could do with clouting to !

agree, mminorf works and photograph where he.s marked for sockets show clearly they were not there when you did your bit. also, notify LABC that you suspect unqualified installers will be doing work they are not notifying.
