Guys

Could anyone tell me if this is the meter which has the on/off peak rates?
The house has economy 7 and it was connected to the output closest to the front of the meter, im presuming this output costs less per kw/h ??
The guy wants a CCU change and all circuits in one CCU as at the moment they are spread across 3 units with the economy 7 circuits (4) in one CCU fed by the output closest to the front of the meter.
As you can tell ive not had a lot of experience with E7

Tel its a crap pic taken off an abused iPhone., the meter is a telemeter and I've now checked it's operation and the 2nd L output is dead between 7am and I think 11pm after that it becomes live and powers the E7

When they begin to fully role out the meters they'll have the capacity to shut off when power is interrupted i.e. when main fuse is pulled. Power will not come back on then till a code has been entered into the meter.

Meter Man.

Can you give some useful details, instead of inferring you have a crystal ball gazing in to the future.

We can all surmise as to the future but as with most things economics will get involved. To replace every meter in the UK with spy in the cab units will be a huge undertaking. As it is they can’t even agree on basic safety issues such as an isolator built in to the meter. I can’t see the companies falling over themselves to rush in to anything that costs money. They may catch one meter fiddler for every 5,000 meters installed, (most people are basically honest). Well I am (honest guv I don’t know anything about that cable tee’d off the incoming supply).

Trained and observant meter readers would be more economical.

These smart meters are very clever. My 78yo father had British Gas call him up about 3 months ago. They tell him it's time for his meters to be changed from the old analog type to these new all singing all dancing SMART meters. He protested that he "Don't want one of these key/card or coin meters" was duely reassured that these were still "dry" meters and also informed "tough" it's happening weather you like it or not.
Anyway fast forward a few weeks and the fitter comes out and fits both gas and electric smart meters. Messed around with the reader unit for about 30 mins and finally declared all is well and proceeded to show my father how it all works and how "SMART" it is lol.
Fast forward about 4 more weeks and he gets his normal gas bill in as well as his "final" electric bill. Puzzeled about this final bill he asked me to investigate for him. I went round there and checked the letter to confirm the old man hadn't got it wrong.....but no he had indeed got a final bill as well as a sorry you are leaving letter. At this point I am thinking well the lights are still on so who the heck is supplying the juice ? I was quite tempted to leave it as is and wait untill one of the supply companies contacted him and then I would let rip.....but the old man wanted it sorting. Called BG and they informed me (after some frantic searching) that the meter reader had basically registered just the gas meter but not the electric one. She had to get me to give her the meter serial number so she could register it and start billing process once again. The way the fitter had filled the forms out implied that the property no longer had an electricity supply lol. Yet the meter still worked...it was still communicating back to "base" via its vodaphone simcard inside. The reader was displaying the correct unit pricing ect and even changed its pricing after X amount of units to reflect the fact the all units from then on were at the lower rate.
So I would say at this point in time that these energy meters are only as SMART as the installers and the people/computer on the other end of them. The fact remains that if I had not called them up my old man would still be connected to the national grid and not getting billed for it at all. Yes he would have had to pay in the end....but I do wonder how long it would have taken them and also what a great story that would have been for one of the "Red Top" newspapers.....just think of the headline "78yo pensioner gets £2000 bill due to BG SMART meter bungle" ......I personally would have loved to see that. BTW my plan also included my dad putting his usual monthly spend on electric in a seperate account untill such times as the "mistake" was discovered.

It's not a guess fella. It's fact. It's what management have said to us. Whether they go back on their word is another matter but this is what we've been told. Don't shoot the messenger mate.
