This has probably been asked before but want to make sure I am on the right track with this.

Am working at a house which has been re-wired ( apparently, but who puts 4mm radials in now adays ). The split load CU has 25mm tails to the meter. From the meter to the cutout its wired in what looks like 6mm cloth covers cable.

Also there appears to be an old cutout with fuse wire in both the L and N conductors, which is also unsealed.

My customer has only just purchased the property, so do I have to contact Electricity North West or his electricity supplier to sort this out as I cant sign off on the electrical work for the loft conversion with the tails in this condition.

Also should this work be FOC ?

I don't understand people who rewire houses and put one socket in each room, it's not exactly in line with building regs etc and number of sockets, if someone wanted me to only put one in each room is walk away.

What have building regs and numbers of sockets got to do with rewires and client's requests ?

Why on earth did you open the cutout? Even the properly trained DNO operatives aren't allowed to open them live without a very very good reason and you just open it up to take pictures?
Have you got any idea how badly you could have been injured if that porcelain insulator had dislodged something else when it fell down and caused a flashover?

The cover was hanging open when I went in. Its impossible to isolate that part as the cut out fuse is after it !

I will let you know how they change it over. I cant see them shutting the street off ! I am going to point out the missing earth connection ( which is why the earth clamp is on there at least they tried to earth it ! ) I am hoping they fit a DP isolator, If not I may just have one to hand to put in at the same time.

I was just suggesting it's not exactly up to spec of a new build, I accept you dont have to follow it, but on a rewire its a bit strange not adding more sockets in.

A client's wishes are a client's wishes. Budgets on rental refurbs may require a point for point rewire with no additions. You can make recommendations for improvement, but if something doesn't require doing, the bill payer calls the shots.
If anything is strange it's that you would walk away from a job because it was not up to your personal spec.

i just prefere to put my name to stuff that's better than one socket in a room, as someone will come along like me and say why didn't they do more?

I do know what you mean. I always strive for a quality job done and place as much recommendations before clients as I can due to me being the person they are employing for my expertise. Some appreciate the input, some have their own ideas. Never myself been in a position to be able to turn away work on such a whim yet though.

A few months ago on here (can't remember who it was) some one said they would turn down a trunking rewire as they had to much pride lol.

Probably me! It does ring a bell. I'm not in a position to turn business down as such, but i get a lot of business and people like me because I provide a professional quote, stay for tea and biscuits etc, ha e lots of chit chat and suggest a lot of things and put ideas out there to the customer, I can more often than not sway someone to a better solution.

i get a lot of good feedback and comments from people as I am very much a people person and go the extra bit which a lot of people don't, if I think I can save the customer money, I do.

its like the thing with the quality of parts that you fit, I only fit good quality stuff as I do t want a reputation for fitting tatt! Eg, someone says swap a white faceplate, they get a double pole MK Logic plate, not a 99p special.

Fair play.
