Microbore

Does anyone know if its ok to replace a small double radiator plumbed in 8mm microbore with a new 500x1500 towel rail with 15mm fittings. I do not know whether the central heating system has manifolds or not, probably it does somewhere, I haven't seen them. A new combi boiler is in place. I had a plan to get a friend in to solder 2 15>8mm reducer on then bring the tails up in 15mm copper from under the floor.

any advice welcome

Should be fine. You won't get the same maximum flow rate as plumbing entirely in 15mm, but it should still get its fair share unless the 8mm has been kinked or blocked.

Edit: If the existing rad worked OK, the new towel rad should too.

Yes that should be OK, my last house all the heating was 8mm , from 22mm manifolds though.

Should be fine instead of soldering 15mm pipe in see if you can move the 8mm and use internal reducing olives there only pence plus some valves come in the box with them

That is an option too , you can probably buy the valves.

If you want to be really posh - like I do - then use 15mm chrome plated tube out from the valves to under the floor then connect to your microbore using a 15mm to 8mm compression reducer.

Quite.

I'd much rather have a nice straight bit of chromed 15mm than a kinky bit of 8mm copper any day.

All good advise, so thanks. I have used these before, does the job as well.

I must get my caliper out to be sure of the size, its either 8 or 10mm... I see john guest to a 15-10 speedfit reducer or they do a 15-10 reducing straight (coupler). Now I understood how the coupler works with the tightening nuts on both ends but wasnt sure how the reducer held on to the 10mm microbore...

I also read somewhere that it wasnt advisable to use pushfit on microbore...best method being to solder...

heard that with a metal compression fitting these can be tightened to much squashing the pipe...

I've seen a job when a plumber had used chrome pipe and used end feed under floor board obviously he must have scrapped the chrome away first. It worked it was a existing shower . wot are you're thoughts about that Geordie ? Rough as or good idea ?
