When working on an installation with mixed wiring is it adviable to sleeve the conductors if two differant colours are present at the same accessory or is it ok to just place a mixed wiring notification at the db?

was funny how they wired these old chalets.....in the apex roof, center was a full length bare copper cable for the earth, left was vir run for neutral, and right vir was line......each chalet was tap off and feed 1 5amp socket and a 1kw heater, later they tapped off with 60amp wirelex fused boards....totally crazy......dont know abaut 56 but in the 80`s it was more like a knocking shop...lol

I was too young to know about such things ...... unfortunately.

'56 was 11 years after the end of WW2 and I think people had got so used to being told what to do that they maybe needed telling how to have a holiday so they got these Redcoats as they were called to organise everything for them.

It probably created jobs for a few ex RSMs too !!

red yellow and blue would have been late sixties to seventies so white would have been 50-to late 60s, VIR cables were pre 50 along with black rubber, perhaps some of the older guys here can confirm, but that is what I think regarding age of white in the 3 cores.

Yeah, 50s to 60s would be my guess...

You don't see it too often because a lot of electricians back then either used 2 twins (cutting a core) or borrowed upst neutral!

We went to a place in Wales called The Robin Hood Camp, where Holiday On the Buses was filmed. It was in Prestatyn and a total tip. It reminded me of Winson Green Prison which is now famous due to the Benefit Street TV programme. On the day we left, my dad who
was a straight talker like myself banged on the reception desk when presented with a bill. He said Robin Hood? It's more like
Robbin' Ba$***d$.!!!! I made friends with a boy there who kept writing to me for a few years................. ah to be young.
