Discuss MK sentry busbar configuration in the Electrical Course Trainees Only area at ElectriciansForums.net

I did a forum search for "guts out", some example threads:

Also this post by Simonslimline (in the trainee section)... scroll up a few posts to see the picture of the board (#124), it's mint. :)

Thanks mate that's very useful, I remember simonslimline posting that pic a few months back. Yeah that the level of neatness I'm going for !

I always take the guts out and go from there. Getting the board on the wall and the cables inside it in order is the harder part i find.

Once its secured and all cables are lined up inside the cu in the correct order, it's a breeze from this point.

Hope it goes well and Post a pic when it's finished mate :rockon2::)

Cheers Mate,
I'll post a pic up if I'm proud of it.
So if you don't see a pic, you'll know it's a birds nest job :biggrinjester:

Post it up anyway, you'll receive some constructive criticism and maybe some tips.

I'm going to change my CU at home in the coming weeks. (Last CU change I did was in the early 90's) I'm sure some of the trainees would do a quicker neater job. I've had the new CU sat in it's box underneath my old one for at least the last 2 years... I will get round to it.

Will deffinatley post it up Rob, the fitting may have to be Saturday.
I know I'm working tomorrow 5.00am rise to go to London, potentially Friday too.

Update
Some of the circuits need extending.
They're long enough for a birds nest install but not for neat and orderly.
Can do the extending without wrecking the house due to cables in voids and access from cellar below.
I Have done most of this.

Good luck or sods-law dictates I have local work from the agency.
I don't need to money as such - it's about maintaining the relationship with the agency to xamas eve midday, they're mildly blackmailing me..
Need to get the CU in before NYE or is will be illegal :hump:

Careful now...

Careful now...
Without taking up too much of your time, could you expand on that a bit.
I meant this isn't an amendment 3 compliant board so I couldn't install it from 1st of jan this year.

There's nothing illegal about it though, and you can still install it.

Been told I need to get it installed before otherwise my mate who's been helping advisng /supervising won't notify it.
Confusion reigns.
I really don't want to say stuff that might wind people up. Please bear with this question asked in ingnorance.
Are you saying I can install after 1jan 16 based on the install was planned before 1 jan 16 ?

Ok, sorry my response was a bit abrupt, your not going to wind anyone up here fella. BS7671 isn't law though, you should refrain from using comments like that.

Also just because it isn't metal doesn't automatically mean it's non compliant under the new amendment.

I don't know what the rules about planning a job are to be honest. But the regulations don't make anything illegal, nor do they require all cu's to be non-combustible.
You can house the cu in a non-combustible enclosure (build a plasterboard clad boxing round it) for example
Or you can, if you believe it to be justified, make a departure from the regulations

I didn’t find your reply abrupt at all - I suspected I’d said something stupid, and wanted to find out what it was.:D All good info, I appreciate your interest.

Personally I either use my Jr hacksaw or just mark one side with Snips, turn over mark the other side and then bend it back and forth until it snaps cleanly
