I don't think this as been done before, so as the title suggest's! what has been the most enjoyable job you have done to date, not for profit etc, but purely for enjoyment and satisfaction.
I think there could be some good replies here regarding locations etc.

I would say mine was one of many installations relating to the installation of Granutech ( American company ) Tyre shreddder systems

the job was down in cerne abbas Dorchester, a beautiful part of the country.
Job involved;
design and building of control panels, including interconnection of the americans panels (always massive panels with not a lot in them )
installation of containment, traywork
isolators and motor connections
safety circuits
Commisioning the sysytem with the friendliest texan you could meet ( Mark ) who drank black coffee by the bucket load

Also the 16th century Inn we stayed in was beautiful, Great host Mike, great food and hospitality.

I genuinley didn't want to come home.

Now i know my example won't be the most exotic, excitng or technical work but it was one of my favourite's.

So what was yours!

Sorry this is a bit of a long story.

We won a contract to supply lime to a steel works. The deliveries had to be by rail. Bit of a problem there, the loading points had originally been designed for rail loading but were never used as everything went by road. They were in a bit of a mess to say the least.

To comply with current environmental rules a dust plant and extraction hoods had to be installed. Which they duly were by contractors. Just got it finished and the contract vanished. OK the new stuffs not doing anything to get in the way of road loading so leave it, we’ll forget it as a costly mistake.

About a year later I wandered in to the bosses office to be greeted with “I was just going to phone you”, “we’ve got that contract back”. I’m getting a very bad feeling by now.

I’m given a new set of drawing and told to get on with it. I’d had a few sets of modification drawings arrive during the previous year and just ignored them. No way was I sending blokes out to modify a plant that has never turned a wheel. Looked at the new drawings, revision “K”, phones the workshop to find out the last ones we had, “B”. BUGGER!

So went with one of the lads to look at the job, we both came to the conclusion we couldn’t modify the five MCC’s as per spec. Phoned the drawing office and asked for the plant specification and a set of drawings showing power only, we’ll fill the rest in.

5 MCC’s and 3 control stations all rewired, we did the drawings as we went along.

Come the start up the only thing to go wrong was the two extraction fans tripped out. Something we hadn’t taken in to account was the Derbyshire weather, the fan casings were full of water. Simple solution drill a drain hole, ½ hour later try again.
Now I never really got on with the boss, and honestly I didn’t do this deliberately. He was just walking past under the fan exhaust vents when I pressed sequence start. There was still a few gallons of sh1tty horrible water in the fans, he copped the lot!

So the boss got drenched, all thirty+ drives started in sequence and the plant ran as per specification. I was quite happy.
The only tweeks that had to be done were mechanical, only to be expected when its been stood over a year.

PS the boss didn't seem to believe it was an accident.

Too many to mention, some for legal or ethical reasons.....but one that still makes me giggle was a job at a local equestrian establishment that required the complete install of a horse excercise machine. This,is a large set of four paddles 10 meters in diameter that rotate within a circular enclosure, driven by a hydraulic power unit with proportional speed control. So,the girls put four willing nags in,and set it going for maybe an hour at a go,job groovy....Get a call, saying a couple have sussed that they can stop the others by standing still and blowing off the PRV on the pack...Have you any ideas? well, not being a horse lover,i suggested fitting a strand of electric stock fencing on the rear of each panel with the transformer at the centre...that should keep em' movin'....Got it all wired up,asked me good pal Rodger (now living in NZ)to check each paddle...looked at the control switch...looked at him in the middle...could'nt help meself....after he had done about six circuits at maybe 6 mph,his sense of humour evaporated, and everytime he slowed, there was a "crack" as 20,000 volts "giddying" him up again....I'm laughing now,,,i do miss him :frown2:

I think mine was installing a robot to pour foam into seat moulds in a small factory in Tredegar, Wales. We had a week (shutdown) to rip out the old "nodding donkey" and replace it with the robot, commission and program it. I spent the evenings writing the software and by the weekend it was working. On the Saturday night the works engineer picked me up and took me for a 5 star meal. On the Monday I trained the operators to use the machine and left them my hotel phone number in case of problems on the night shift, called in the following morning on my way home and they gave me an envelope with £50 in (not bad in mid 80's).
