Hi,
I'm about to reroute cables and sockets/switches from the ceiling down to the socket height after insulating a wall.
I understand this will derate the cable, so what it the best way to do this please?

EDIT: Should be in DIY

You'll have to give some more info! Is it that you have an existing wall with existing cable and socket, and that you're basically just adding insulation over the top?

Maybe….
1 too little information provided.

Just saying 🤷
Hi R,
!/ I have elecric cables with switches and sockets, chased into a wall. I want to add insulation onto the wall 75mm thick, so the sockets/wiring has to be brought away from the wall and onto the plasterboarded insulation. Are there any considerations that I have to think about, please?

nothing to worry about unless the cables are buried under the insulation.
if they are on top then no problems

Hi,
I've found out that there is a temperature element to cables over insulation!
As you all know cables are rated for temperature/current, and cables over insulation changes the cooling of the cable, so I think they need metal between the insulation and the cable?

Welcome aboard. I'll stay out of the advice but I'm here if you need a hand merging those two accounts? Do you have access to both now? if so, let me know which one you want to keep and I'll merge the other one.
