Moving socket on ring

Hi all,

Moving a socket on a ring 30cm sideways. Depending on how the cables come in, was going to through crimp the t & e, heat shrink over it and put it in some capping/oval conduit, bury in wall and then plaster over.

This sound acceptable?

Not sure I would be burying solid conductors, assuming they are solid with crimp connectors again assuming you are going to use those red/blue/yellow types.

That's why I stipulated that it relied on the correct crimps and tools being used.

That would probably be a better way for the OP to do it. And use Wagos. Mind you, if doing that then he might as well leave the original socket there.

Assuming the existing socket is part of a RFC, as the OP implies, and is not already a spur off of a RFC, the new socket can be a simple spur from the existing socket.
No Wagos or crimps required.

Awful things had two ring final faults a while back, high continuity readings. Two circuits had been extended using these connectors and both circuit faults were caused by them.

It's strange that. They should be a good product. Did you contact the manf?

I think he might want to actually get rid of the existing one.

Nope just cut them off fitted alternatives and faults rectified.

I always explain to customers you can’t move a socket.

What you do is remove one socket and install another.

Two jobs.

If your getting rid of the old socket and plastering over it that means removing the cables as well.

you can’t just join a new cable in the wall were the old socket was and run to new location.

you will then need to run new cables within proscribed zones for the location of the new socket not the old.

If as mentioned at the start, the cables for the socket are coming in from the side and not above and the socket is to ‘move’ to the right 30 or so cm, then the cables will still be in the safe zone, so is there any issue with through crimping, heat shrinking and putting in a bit of capping before plastering over

The diagram you posted in your OP shows cables coming down the wall from directly above the socket. It also shows another cable going to the left of the socket.
Are you now saying that the cables coming down the wall don't exist?
