I wouldn't make a serious purchase without researching it first. I found this forum almost by accident and am so glad that I did. It has helped me make an informed decision through thorough research and honest feedback. Plenty of people knock the various trades for one reason or another. I cannot recommend the people on here highly enough: honest and supporting - exactly what a consumer needs before making a purchasing decision.

I only hope that I can repay something by offering help to others who come along after me.

I'm a customer looking for an install after the glorious 12th. I've learnt more from here than anywhere else. I've been lurking for a while but have today registered so I can see photos and links.
I'm still reading about what to get/not get and what a decent install should consist of.

I need a installer that can do a quality job and fix the panels securely as it is very windy here.

This is all very useful to me so thanks to all.

Firstly, where do you live?
Also, Because the FIT is still in consultation until the 23rd, it may be better to wait and see what the tariff is going to be.
It has not been confirmed that it will be 21p for >4KWP, I personally have stopped selling until that has been confirmed, the reasons for this are twofold, I would not want to sell a 25year investment to anybody not knowing for certain that it would be set at that tariff, secondly, and this point is controversial, PV companies may be breaking the law if they sell systems at this moment in time, it is not something that I am willing to risk.
Hope this helps.

Daddycool, Get a survey now by all means, but do not rush the install before Jan or Feb. Panel prices have dropped in the last couple of days, but they are due to drop again in Jan another 5% or more perhaps as the market readjusts. There will probably be another mini feeding frenzy in March in advance of the likely EPC level C requirement, so do not leave it that long.

Evo Energy are touting for new business using the 21p/kWh figure (New FiT Rates | EvoEnergy). Presumably, they've decided that it's legal to do this.

Daddycool we'd be happy to offer you a survey depending on where you are in the country, no harm in getting the details taken and a price given on todays rates- we are upfront and honest when repricing and if the prices drop when you come to make a decision then this will be passed onto you.

I found my PV installer on here after speaking to a couple of other suppliers. They rasied some questions to which I was looking for answers so I looked on here. Found one rather vocal contributors located fairly conveniently to me and after discussions and a bit more research ended up buying from him.

Evo energy obtained their MCS for Solar PV on the 10/6/2011, I researched the company about 3 months back, they portray to have been trading since 2007, which may be the case, but they have not been trading as an accredited PV company, something else maybe?
I personally am more about honesty, and good practice, as we have not had the result of the consultation that ends on the 23rd it all could change.
If you are planning to be involved in the Industry for the long term, then to upset customers by promising them a 21p FIT and then find out that they only get "say" 12p would not be good practice.
How would you feel if this happened to you? Would you tell everybody that you had been conned by Joe Blogs PV?
