You don't need an MFT one function will do as long as it's continuity

Thanks everybody. Turned out it was the light switch and I didn't need to touch the lamp holder so I'm going back to Screwfix for a refund

when you say it was the switch, you changed it before the problem or it had a loose wire etc ??

Had a look inside the switch. The live wire broke away from the switch as soon as I moved it. So I thought that was the problem and I stripped back the wire and reattached it. However it still wasn't working. Luckily I brought a spare light switch and replaced the old one... and voila it worked
