Hello All,

I am really struggling to find a type B rcd for my first install, Assessment in few days! Needs to be 30mA, Every wholesaler i call doesnt even seem to know what a type B is!!
What Manufacturer do you use? and Where can i get hold of one in a 2 way ccu asap? (down south)

many thanks

do you mean RCBO rather than mcb by any chance?
Didn't see it was in the PV section Doh!

Or can you redesign it so you avoid the need for a type B rcd?
It would be quite unusual that you have no alternative but to have one.
Regards
Bruce

Hi Bruce,
Well its a transformerless Inverter (eversolar) and its for my MCS assessment so i don't see any alternative is there?

Transformerless inverters do not all 'require' a rcd.
But under 7671, if they do have an rcd then it must be a type B unless it meets the exception in 712.x.y.z.... (do not have it in front of me)
So why are you putting an rcd in?
Is it because of burried ac cables in a wall?
Is it because of TT?
Is it because agricultural?
Is it the manufacturers instructions? (If so read carefully as some translations are readable in a number of ways)
etc etc

Once you are clear why you are putting it in then it might be possible to avoid having to do do.
I use transformerless inverters most of the time and have not had to put in a type B rcd yet.

Its mainly because the cable s buried in the wall now at customer request so no avoiding the rcd. I thought RCD protection was required on TL inverter regardless unless manufacturer stated otherwise if it incorporated some form of protection against DC leaking back down the circuit?
Do you always surface mount or use SWA then?

you need to avoid burying the cable. A lot of inverters specify a 100ma RCD which means you cant bury the cable.

The alternative to SWA is a cable described as pre-wired conduit (Nexans) - conforms to BS8436. There are other manufacturer product names. Easier to use than SWA in domestics.

ive read the manual, researched it online and cant find it saying anything about an rcd, or more importantly not to use one. Its an eversolar TL2500 heard of it? I have to get it right for assessment.
If i can find i do not require one il the the cable out and rewire the whole thing! will be quicker than trying to find an rcd type b 30mA and cheaper by sounds of it!
