Hi
I read some threads about going to the college instead of 5 weeks courses. But (big BUT here), I'm 34, I work as a driver now, the college courses starts in september, I really want to do this courses as fast as possible, full time ( I will quit my driving job).
I have no experience at all in electrical related jobs but I am willing to learn.
I live in East London, Walthamstow E17.

Now, what options do I have ? What I should do the next day or week?

Regards, Alex

Just as a note alex, i lived in a flat about 5 years ago where below me lived 6 poles in a 1 bedroom flat, each one worked at a meat processing factory earning ÂŁ16,000 a year taking all the overtime they could get, they had food parcels sent over from poland and sent all their wages home, they had been in the country for about 5 years. So by my reckoning thats nearly half a million quid left our economy to go to theirs? Polish is the second most spoken language in the uk...i'll let you work out for yourself what thats done/doing to our economy.

What a load of old, right, no swearing. It really winds me up when people start blaming everyone and anyone who could be classed as an immigrant for the state of the country and the fact that they're not getting work. Did the immigrants vote the governments in over the last thirty or more years? Did the immigrants go on strike every five minutes when they had no cause? Did the immigrants operate closed shops? Did they introduce part 'P'? Did the immigrants refuse work because it was beneath their dignity? Did they sit on their backsides and watch manufacturing dissappear? Is rough work that doesn't comply restricted to immigrants? The answer to every one of those is no.

You want to point the finger of blame at someone because life isn't how you want it? Look no further than the great british voting public. Too damn lazy to sort out our own country. Too damn wrapped up in empire mentality to see what's happening. If your not happy with what you're doing, or how much you're earning how about you stop moaning on a forum, get off your hole and do something about it.

What can you do? Take a leaf out of the immigrants book, you know, the ones people with no imagination and tiny minds try to blame for their own mistakes. Go out and do something about it, move, change trades, whatever it takes. Crying about how unfair life is without doing a damn thing about it just demonstarte the weak willed lazy attitude that got this country into it's current mess.

No point waxing re;the nationality debate, don't care who is doing what where as long as their doing it right. Got Polish lineage in the family and have respect for ANY dude travelling to better themselves.Done it myself over the years and got treated fine by people whos language i could'nt manage....But to the OP,with the best of intent and respect,i have my HGV licence and you could not teach a newbee to drive one to any standard in 5 weeks. It genuinely is a case of accept the long haul or a different career.Good luck friend.

whilst i agree with most of your post, it was not the UK voters that joined the EU. it was not voters that decided on unrestricted immigration. it was not voters who banned smoking in pubs, thus forcing thousands to close. it was politicians ( not blaming any one party here : both have promised referendums on EU membership, both have reneged on those promises).

You're quite right, it was described as 'the common market'. What has been done since by the voting population? Lots of talk, moaning, wringing of hands, wailing and gnashing of teeth. Action? No, just more apathy followed by some more moaning. Same with the bank scandals, MPs fiddling expenses, and so the list goes on. Fair enough, there's no stomach for anything too radical, but that's no excuse for the green eyed monster to take over and start blaming and daemonising people who are doing something about their own predicament.

The sad truth of the matter is that if all the immigrants siad stuff it we're going home there would be a complete collapse in this country. I don't mean this little bump in the road we're experiencing now, I mean wholescale closures of utilities, businesses, hospitals, supermarkets etc etc.

It's not immigrants who are ruining the electrical and construction industries, it's governments, training organisations, banks, and the schemes.

Lest we forget
No doubt when Germany starts booming again, the Brits will flock there once again in their hundreds of thousands.maybe earn enough money to put some aside and buy that retirement villa in Spain or even Bulgaria/Romania

My own people.the Welsh emigrated to Pensylvania USA and Patagonia Argentina in their many thousands in times gone by, because mining and farming respectively were a better prospect

Before the war,Italians came to Wales in unbelievable numbers, virtually every cafe and restaurant or ice cream parlour were Italian.they settled, were made welcome and their surnames live on in great numbers in the community

A little later, when our mining perked up a bit,the Polish came over in their thousands and integrated to such an extent, they have disappeared into the local population in everything bar names, every village has surnames with those polish twangs

More recent years gone by our people went to Slough and Birmingham,we finally invaded Englamd, because our mining economy was down the plug hole and there were richer pickings elsewhere

Immigration is not new,its not exclusively them, its "us" as well

We need firstly to curtail the influx that has taken place unregulated over the last few years, but we need also to accept that countries are moulded and changed as time passes, the indigenous people today may be the immigrants of years gone by

seems to gone off subject a bit

I trained as an electrician (C&G2330) just before the 17th edition came out. I wanted to be an electrician because I enjoy it. I paid for the course myself and took a day off work unpaid to go the course. When I finished the recession hit and I wasn't able to get any experience anywhere. The problem I faced was that company's were and still do just employee a load of cheap labour to do the install and them just get one electrician to sign it off. I have 3 children and a mortgage to pay do had to give up on becoming an electrician. It's been 6 years now and I still want to be an electrician so I'm looking to upgrade to the 17th CMS get my PartP and just hope that someone will let me learn from them do I can gain not just experience but some confidence. Any offers of help

Currently studying 2330 level 3 and cannot regret any minute of it. As a mature student when i enrolled for 2330 level 2. One lecture tried his best to put me off from taking the course. He said that with the money i would pay that i could get myself a car or go for a luxury holiday.
But my goal is to get into the industry and eventually be an electrician. Follow your dream
