Hi Guys,

I have prolonged doing my 17th edition (2382) update since completing my 2330 level 3 last year.

To my horror it has now gone from a 1 day course at £150 to a 3 day £444 course since the start of the year.

Does anyone know of a cheaper option????

Cheers

Jase,

Iam sure the registration rules changed in Dec. 2010/Jan. 2011.

Edit: it may be possible to use your 2330 as a '17th ed. qualification' but you would have to ask the scheme provider if this is acceptable or not.

Yeah im afraid i have to, if i want to join Elecsa. And to be honest if work dried up and i was looking for a job nobody asks for the 2330 its just basically the core knowledge. They ask for the 17th edition and some the 2391.

If you do not hold the 2382 17th edition, then unfortunately there is no option but to do the full 4 day course. The 1 day 16th to 17th update has gone. I personally think that your 2330 is a better qualification. After all the 17th is just an course and exam on how to use a book. I have just got 4 1st year apprentices through it, and both scored very highly. But this is just my opinion. Unfortunately there are now too many pen pushers working in HR departments up and down the country who deem the 17th edition to be the be all and end all, and to be fair they haven't got a bloody clue.

so howard you are saying that they are teaching the 2330 to the 16th and then you have to do the 17th update?surley if you passed the 2330 last year then you are 17th ed qualified ???

cheers howard. but like i said earlier i spoke with the training centre. he said i don't need to do the 3 day course, and that i could just sit the exam.

so you are saying that they do nor teach the 2330 to the 17th ed? then whats the point in doing it?

when i did college it was 2360, that was 16th ed, which is why i had to do a 17th UPDATE
if you qualified last year then surley you have been taught to the 17th ed?

No, what i am saying is that the 2330 requires a lot of time and effort, the 17th takes a bit of brains, a book and 4 days, i reckon i could get a plumber through it. I teach my apprentices to the 17th edition requirements as part of their NVQ, if i didn't then they would not be receiving training to the required standard, but this doesn't get them the C&G 2382 17th edition certificate. There is a difference between working to the standard and getting a qualification unfortunately. So those with the 2330 are working to and trained to the 17th edition, but have not sat the course for the qualification.

not saying that at all.

2382 shows you know your way around the regs book and have a good understanding of it hence the time limit.

I give up, just more exams and quals to sit instead of time on the job, next it will be that you can not test and inspect without 2391, going that way already, glad i have my plastering course booked in, i can see a change in direction soon. well fed up with this lark

no, testing and inspecting has always been part of the scope of BS7671, if you work to BS7671 then you should be testing and inspecting your work anyway regardless of how many times you have been to college!!!
