Hi Every one im thinking of getting a 3kw system fitted before 1st Aug I have a couple of questions that need answering.

1) How much will I make each year from the new system.

2) Will I still generate electricity in rain dull winter days.

3) Am I doing the wright thing as energy bills will only go up or should I not bother alltogether I will be paying on a intrest free credit card ÂŁ5500.00

Many thanks

Dave

Entirely depends on the orientation and slope angle of the roof and also the location of the property within the UK. But generally speaking a 3 kWp PV system with on a south facing roof with none or slittle shading should generate around 2500 kWh per year which will generate ÂŁ565 in FIT and export income and will save you between ÂŁ100-ÂŁ250 in electricity bills depending on how many people live in the house etc. Both FIT and export payments are subject to RPI inflation rises each year and in house electricty savinsg will increase each year in line with rising electricity prices

So yes if your roof is between South East and South West and has little to no shading then yes Solar PV will be viable for you

we have no shading sun is on roof all day im confused with the saving of only ÂŁ100 to ÂŁ250 pounds per year on my bill we pay ÂŁ1000 for elec each year we looking to pay between 5000 and 5500 on solar want to reduce my elec bill a lot this is why we want to do it we are in Berkshire i am an electrician but not mcs reg

Look at it this way, The Solar PV including the FITS will give you a net benefit of around ÂŁ750 per year for 25 years, this will pay two thirds of your electricity bill every year, plus you are now insulating yourself against further electricity price rises.

Try not to look at the electricity saving on it's own, this is why there is a FIT, to compensate you as the system will not cover all your electricity usage.

Basically it depends how much electricity you use between 9 and 5 and more importantly between 10am and 2-3 pm as is when the majority of electricity is produced. Your electricity savings might be up to ÂŁ300, maybe more but its the fit and export income that can be accurately predicted. Electricity savings are purely an estimate

Reduction in electrical bills for most is just a mere slight benefit as the majority of money to be made, lies with the FiT tariff income.

The volume of that bill reduction lies with whether you can fully use that generated power at time of generation which for most ppl who dont work from home, its an impossibility unless you also installation home automation or somekind of battery backup system.

Without proper background data, no-one on here can give you the proper response you seek, however should you discuss your requirements with good local installers - they should give you the answers you seek and more......

Generally speaking, solar should be a very good investment for most people. Scan through my past postings: I am a customer/enthusiast (and professional investor) and not an installer. I have regularly outlined the financial and practical sides of being a solar PV owner. :)

Hi all
For my two pennyworth I have just had installed a 2.5kWp system from an installer who visits these posts, and the only point I would like to add that I think has been missed is that to get the current 21p fit your house also has to be energy efficient to class D. if worse than that it will only get 16p FIT, (MY error it is 9p without band D as is pointed out in a post further down the page)and the energy cert that you need cost me ÂŁ60 to have done and takes about 20 mins.
It was only commissioned last Wednesday and my best generation so far was 13kWh (last Thursday good sunny day and my worst was today 5.7 kWh) for all day. total since last Thursday is 53 kWh.
Kind regards
JohnC

Without a D grade thinks it's 9p per Kwh

Ok tanks for this so far we have a sales person coming out on wednesday ill see what he has to say.
Be afraid, be very afraid. This sales person will be trained to sit in your home for hours on end and to use every trick in the book to "persuade" you to buy the system he/she is pushing. Be aware of the "special manager's discount for signing today" this is where you are given a price if you don't like it, the manager will be called who will offer a large %age off that as long as you sign today.
One company offered a scheme whereby the full purchase price would be refunded in 5 years time, all underwritten by a Swiss bank. Problem is this Swiss bank didn't exist.

Im the sales mans worse nightmare they wont be getting me to sign anything on the day and all the discount s**t wont work on me I will kick him out the door, they told me on the phone what they are charging. Do I need this energy cert I thought that was for any thing after 1/7/12

Hi again
My bad it certainly is 9p FIT if the property is less than band D. Here is a cut and paste from the energy savings trust.
To get FITs at the standard rate for solar PV your property needs to have an Energy Performance Certificate of band D or better.
If you have an EPC which shows that your property is a band E, F or G you will need to carry out energy efficiency improvements before you apply for the FITs or receive the FIT at the lower rate of 9p/kWh for the lifetime of the tariff, currently 25 years.
Kind regards
