Sunpower are the highest performing panels in the world, this is measured by square area, therefore you can install more power on a limited roof space.
but they are also a premium price, so your payback time would be longer.
You say 10 years is too long, what return are you looking for?
 
To be honest we are doing it more for the free electricity have thought about fitting them my self and not getting the FIT as we will do washing, tv is on all day wife at home with kids just want to reduce our electricity bill.
