There's a link on the sticky posts for checking if you already have an epc, would be worth a check. (can't link- on iPad)

Im the sales mans worse nightmare they wont be getting me to sign anything on the day and all the discount s**t wont work on me I will kick him out the door, they told me on the phone what they are charging. Do I need this energy cert I thought that was for any thing after 1/7/12

For 21p FiT you need an EPC grade D or better (the solar counts towards EPC).
Someone I know had a property with EPC in the middle of band E, but a 4kWp solar array itself sent the EPC well into band C.
But make sure that your property can achieve band D or better; a few properties - especially old or rural - have "issues" such as lack of insulation, lack of cavity walls and no mains gas which badly knock points off the EPC potential.

The EPC certificate will also need to be sent with your FiT application to your chosen energy company (many people choose their current electricity supplier, and some electriicty suppliers will not accept FiT claims from anyone other than their electricity customers). My FiT provider is Scottish Power and they processed my form in a reasonable time and make FiT payments straight into my bank account within about a fortnight of me giving a reading.

After 31st July the FiT rate drops to 16p from 21p and from 25years to 20years.

I can only echo the advice to speak to installers directly.
We have recently had a 3.25kw system on a East facing roof and it is generating very well.
We have looked at our energy usage and now proctively set washing machines, tumble driers and diswashers to run when higher output is expected.
I had my system fitted by a moderator on this forum - if you PM me I will happily pass you their details

Lets be clear

you require 55 points on epc for a d rating to get higher tariff.
all paper work and installation completed no later than 31st july .....

paper work can take half day or longer

best way is to email paperwork then call the supplier to see if its landed

works for me.

Hi Guys had the solar man out today our back roof doesnt face east so the panels will have to go on the front of the house which is SE we can have a 4kw system fitted for ÂŁ6700.00
but we have a nice house with clay tiles and no one else in the street has solar what do you guys think about panels on fronts of houses we wanted them on the back but the roof is NW on the back and SW on the side he wouldnt fit them on the back or side as he said the wouldnt be any good for us is he wright with this thanks in advance

Mate it's upto you to decide probably yes if I was wrapped up in the return figures, you could have an inroof system so would look alot better than the retro fits you see about

There's nothing to stop you fitting panels on a NE or NW-facing roof, other than a lower return on investment.

If you have a 35-degree roof, a 4kWp system would annually generate in the region of:

E / W = 2700kWh
SE / SW = 3200kWh
S = 3400kWh
NE / NW = 2300kWh
N = 2000kWh

If the roof is steeper, North-ish systems will underperform a bit more. If the roof is shallower, North-ish systems won't be quite as bad.
