Just been to a property (new build) and saw this:
[ElectriciansForums.net] New Build - Dangerous Electrics[ElectriciansForums.net] New Build - Dangerous Electrics[ElectriciansForums.net] New Build - Dangerous Electrics

Full list of problems:
· The outlet pipe from the toilets terminates in the attic directly next to the extractor fans for both bathrooms, the condensation from this pipe has leaked all into the extractor fans where a puddle had formed – electrical connections in water.
· The extractor fans were buried in insulation causing them to overheat and stop working, this added with the water inside the unit as well generated a very dangerous situation.
· I also replaced a light fitting in the kitchen, to my horror the light cable above the celling was wrapped around the central heating pipes.
· No cable within the property was clipped up, they are all left hanging under their own wait and only supported by wrapping them around wood and water pipes.
· The upstairs bathroom lighting circuit is connected together by choc blocks and covered in 6” of insulation. (pictures attached). With upto 5 cables into each terminal.
· Bare live cables which have ‘snapped’ out of the choc blocks

and this my friends is why i wont buy a newbuild....... soo many cowboys about nowadays! :banghead:

And the reason why I won't work on new builds is because they don't pay enough to get a proper job done.

The home owner has said do what ever I have to and he will pay what ever it costs - also do a full EICR and correct any problems as well that come up - LABC and Public Protection have been informed as well because of a risk to the neighbouring properties being the same condition as they where all finished about the same date - within a day or 2 (10 in total)

Well dont forget these are new builds so claims will be taken against the company who built the property (there is a guarantee in place)
Anything he has to pay - he will get back from the building company.
Also if this spark is registered then a claim can be taken from the 10 year work guarantee

Also doing a EICR tomorrow as well (only a few years after the property was built)

I've just spent a year doing new builds for Taylor Wimpey. At the end of our contract we priced for 5 other sites in the area and the new contract manager came round to view our first fix. His exact words were 'If you're going to keep doing it like that you won't be working for us anymore. Far too good a job, which means far too expensive'.

He wasn't ****ting us either, we lost every job we quoted, the last one by £360 per plot over 80 plots! That is a lot of money. So yeah, several of us got laid off for being too good. We managed to look at a new job, dunno who the contractors are but they've thrown it in like their hair was on fire. No capping, no clips, flexi duct on every extract where we always used solid, all crushed and mangled round the joists, absolutely hideous work but the big boys are happy because the price is right. You couldn't make it up.

it seems they are all thrown together nowadays, then again i doubt very much anyone other than acccountants run these companies now, where i work is exactly the same rather than buy decent materials / equiptment they buy crap and expect it to last.. id write up an essay putting the world to rights but i cba lol.

thats true of most things now,in quick sod the quality take the money,it could be said that because of the quality of sparks entering the industry working for less they dont care about quality, the more the old hands retire the more lesser trained sparks enter the industry, previously the old sparks would refuse to do a job of poor quality,it would be an insult to them to be asked to do a bad job,but thats what happens today sadly, quality is out the window, its all about the money, and the sad thing is,the cost to buy these things isnt cheaper to reflect the poor quality,i could understand if it was..

It's a real shame that loyalty has all but vanished from the trade. The company I was working for are a small firm and they have made their money from over 20 years of working with Wimpey. All the site agents know us, know the work, know what service they're going to receive and exactly what to expect in everyday practise, but it means nothing at all now. I have to admit that we were never the cheapest, but I honestly think we were worth the extra. Shame.
