Just been to a property (new build) and saw this:
[ElectriciansForums.net] New Build - Dangerous Electrics[ElectriciansForums.net] New Build - Dangerous Electrics[ElectriciansForums.net] New Build - Dangerous Electrics

Full list of problems:
· The outlet pipe from the toilets terminates in the attic directly next to the extractor fans for both bathrooms, the condensation from this pipe has leaked all into the extractor fans where a puddle had formed – electrical connections in water.
· The extractor fans were buried in insulation causing them to overheat and stop working, this added with the water inside the unit as well generated a very dangerous situation.
· I also replaced a light fitting in the kitchen, to my horror the light cable above the celling was wrapped around the central heating pipes.
· No cable within the property was clipped up, they are all left hanging under their own wait and only supported by wrapping them around wood and water pipes.
· The upstairs bathroom lighting circuit is connected together by choc blocks and covered in 6” of insulation. (pictures attached). With upto 5 cables into each terminal.
· Bare live cables which have ‘snapped’ out of the choc blocks

Round my way its the "extension" wiring done under full planning permission that is always questionable - makes me wonder what the building inspectors look at when they come to site!

I know its not a million miles from my answer with R1+R2 - but dont know where he got the rest from

My meter fuse blow whilst I was doing this R1+R2 so just bought a new one (today) so I will be going back over there tomorrow to finish off the lighting circuit (should of put this in)
I know the main fuse is 100A because it says on it - it also has a sticker from the DNO of date installed and the current reading. They all say 100 amp on them do the BS1361 carriers.

Dillb - have a look at the pictures on the OP - Every light was in the same situation. I agree the picture you are on about is rough and needs putting into a enclosure etc, but that sort of thing happens a lot, don' think this is exclusive to this installation.

This cert results must have been mad up - just look at R1, R2, Rn results and Zs - nothing added up - not even with the Zs = (R1+R2) + Ze (long way out) Not always true, once you introduce parallel earth paths the Zs reading should be lower.

With regards to the wiring there was nothing easier about wiring it the way he did That doesn't matter the number of sockets is irrelevant

there was several things of interest to LABC - they investigating the other properties on Monday Morning - meeting them over there at 9am

Now I know we all should work and leave a install safely, but I hope none of the points you have raised are going to be mentioned as none are really reasons to get LABC involved and they may just think it is not worth the effort chasing them up as they are all minor misdemeanors apart from the class 1 fan with no CPC

on the theme of building inspectors. i wired an extension a couple of years back. 1st fix complete, 5 1.5mm cables dropping to a switch position, all neatly clipped to blockwork . wall was going to be dry-lined. said BI pulled it up for no capping. i said OK, you find me some capping to straddle 5 cables and i'll fit it. plonker.

this is exactly why I packed a job in once, the guy was using the cheapest kit no pattern to rings(once had two sockets on opposite side of a room on two different rings first year apprentices being left to wire houses first and second fix.the final straw was being asked to falsify completion certs as "you know its wired right cause we wired it" then being called to a fault on a new house handed over untested and finding a P-E reverse on a socket outlet.Needless to say the certs never got falsified and he ended up looking for a new inspection and test engineer.

Does make you think what exactly Part P/Bs 7671 is actually here for doesn't it.

If this caused a fire, killed a family do we really think these so called builders/contractors would sleep at night in jail?!?

Ha any of this been mention to the original contractor if you are making a claim against a guarantee they have a right to put it right first before anyone can do that.

I don't think anyone who leaves an install in this state has any "rights". Get sick of seeing crap and like this and being told "oh well, at least it works!" Wrapping cable around hot pipes? Total rubbish.
Take their tools off them and put them in the stocks for a night!

I know one contractor who only employs eastern europeans and apprentices. There's not a single qualified person on the firm aside from him. He basically uses them as labour, most have half a clue but only just. I worked with them for a couple of months last year on a project in London and I was just amazed at the work. They were all on about 6 - 7 pounds an hour and the owner of the firm probably turned up for a total of 3 hours a week and looked around and did the paperwork. He even had them testing with gear they had no idea how to use so I found them filling out test sheets by calculation time and time again.

The owner is a very, very rich man. I bet that's happening everywhere.

This is exactly why Part P was introduced! get with the programme! ;-)

Just been around the nabours and to my horror I found exactly the same - but this time no take around the chock block

The other 2 nabours turned around to me and said if their house burns down then who cares - they dont want me to check their electrics - HOW MAD!!

The scary thing about the one that let me in to check was it had only been inspected last week and this electrician didn't pull it up at all - again I know this spark and he only charges £50 for an EICR

Nicholas, Just chill mate. Big breaths:)
You can't force people to have work done, if the neighbours don't want their installation checked well that's up to them.
If it does go up in smoke (which from reading through the thread I doubt will happen), that's their problem not yours

Trouble with cables and pipes wrapped around each other is it the electricians fault or the plumbers seen it loads of times where the plumbers have fed all their pipes in with no regard to other services already installed

I feel another crusade starting how about a statutory right of entry for electricians to do EICR's and charge the householder
