Hi everyone!

This is my first post so please go easy :D

I've decided that I want a change of career and become an electrician.
I currently work 9 to 5 in an office, but I feel that now is the time to move onto something more hands-on and challenging aswell as enjoyable and lucrative.

Im hoping to get pointed in the right direction of where to begin in and which course to take. I've heard that the C&G qualifications are the main ones to take, so if anyone can advise me on how and what then I'd really appreciate it.

I live in Essex, so a course somewhere in the county would be ideal as well as part time and in the evening.

Thanks!!

I can't take a day off every week thats the thing as I only have 20 holiday days a year.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Im at a loss.....what can I do???

Also like to add, that if you do not have work placement within the industry, you cannot do the course. Despite what this guy might tell you.

you could also go for distance learning if you are the disciplined sort, and then go register with the learning lounge you get to see video tutorials on how things work, definately worth it in my mind.

Take it a step at a time, get all the quals you need, try pick up bits of experience here and there, and be prepared to take a cut, to get experience.

How would I go about this first?

distance learning is expensive and i wouldnt recommend it to everyone, just worked out for me cheaper than college, bcos i was a foreign student, so had to pay through the roof.

distance learning is hard graft bcos you dont have anyone to explain it too you, once again in my case it was different because i did have someone who could explain it.

college is better if you can go to college, but if not just google for a college who offers the distance learning version, should be under 2 grand for 2330 lvl 2,3

some places like olci will want 6grand or more. just shop around for the best deal in your circumstance.

i do recommend signing up to the learning lounge though mate, something like 40 squids for the year and it explains things well.

Im based in Brentwood.

In fact I just checked the prospectus and Im gonna go for the 2330 level 2 @ Chelmsford college on tuesdays and wednesdays.
Complete that in 2 years time and then another year taking a level 3 course.

Have you already started then alexknight0602??

Yeah i started in September. done our first exam 201. got 202 exam beginning of June. Doing practical exam before the college year is up too! Let me know if you have any more questions.
