Discuss New ceiling light - what am I doing wrong!!! in the Lighting Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

There's no guarantee that's how the wiring is actually configured without some test gear. There's no sleeping on the proposed switch live. What's to say someone hasn't got them mixed up?

Does the electrics trip if you turn the light circuit on without the light connected?

Are the bulbs in the light when you have connected light up and turn power on?

My friend had a similar issue and it turned out someone had put the wrong bulbs in the light from the manufacturer and it was just blowing them up.

If taken the old rose and metal bracket off this morning and can see that a couple of wires have been snagged so assuming that has been causing the issue.

I plan to wrap the wires in electrical tape and attach new metal blacket directly to ceiling as per Richards instructions.

wrap the wires in electrical tape

NO< NO< NO. that would be creating a fire risk for one. wago connectors are the answer. failing which, a short strip of connector block located within the light fitting's dome.

Ok update.

Wrapped all wires from ceiling in tape, only one was visibly snagged but did all as precaution.

Old rose and metal bracket taken off and using the connector block and metal bracket that was supplied with light and installed directly to ceiling.

All is working fine.

However worried about the recent fire risk claim now.......

Matt

as long as you have connected all safely. your earlier post seemed to suggest that you were going to wrap the connections in tape.

No I have made the connections using a connector block, the one supplied with the light fitting.

I simply wrapped the already insulated/sleeves wires from the ceiling in tape as one had noticeable snagged.

There's no chance I'm touching it to take photo.

It is exactly per Richards amazing art work ;)

Thanks again Richard!!

And to all that couldn't be bothered to offer advice as simply replied "call electrician".........thanks also :)
They say a picture is worth a thousand words...in this case I'd say the refusal to touch it take a picture is worth a thousand words.

Another DIY botch job out there I fear.

What isn't the point of this forum?

For 'experts' like yourself 123 to simply insult and put people down who ask for DIY advise? If so well done, you are indeed an expert in this field.

I clearly stated my connections have followed Richards image to a T, so if my installation is a botch job Richards advice is also bad advice.

My installation is working and has been checked over and confirmed safe I don't need to take apart now and justify this to people like you.

I wanted to do this myself, you might be the type of person that would just get someone else to do a job for you if you found it a bit difficult but each to their own.

Anyway, the lights fitted, working and happy it's with the electrical safety check that has been carried out on it so no need for anymore 'experts' to waste anymore time with comments.

no need to get shirty. you've had good advice and maybe a bit of a put down from some posts, but what do you expect? we feed our families doing this, and DIYers steal the bread from our kids'mouths by asking for advice how to cut us out of earning a living, not possessing the knowledge and equipment to do the work safely. i have a heart problem. think i'll ask on the surgeons' forum as how to perform a triple bypass. can'r be too hard, it's only a few arteries. :D
