Hi
I have been asked to quote for some remedial and extra works such as new gas bonding, new circuit for boiler supply, light and switch in loft,2 extra sockets in kitchen, shaver point in bathroom and change some socket and switch plates.
The customer had a EICR done about a year ago which was classed as unsatisfactory.
One of the faults was the entry hole for the tails being too big and that the tails being 16mm were too small.
The customer wants a certificate to say its all satisfactory when the work is all done.
I will be issuing a new EIC for the boiler circuit and minor works certs for the additional works.
Should I instead recommend a board change and EIC then the whole installation would be covered.
Ive attached a pic of the existing consumer unit,RCD 30ma from the 1980s I think.
Any views would be much appreciated.

Behave mate...honestly?
That is the way I read it and rate cables which I believe to be correct. You and others believe the run to be clipped throughout when in fact it is not that is your choice I don't really care until you pop it up on a public forum.

Still enters the head and the meter though doesn't it as the terminals are not completely true with the insulated material...all of a sudden makes it enclosedo_O
Yes this is true but it is the only "possible" instance I could think of. People are tuned to the fact of using the clipped direct ccc and follow it blindly.

yes but it's also not correct by your thinking...The tails enter the head like in the picture above and all of a sudden the CCC needs reducing to that of being enclosed in trunking or conduit? I think not.....Do you have another "possible" instance where clipped direct could exist? Or is it pointless having clipped direct in the regs as a reference method? As the cable will always enter an enclosure/accessory...which by your thinking/definition will need the CCC reducing to that of being enclosed in trunking or conduit.

The case for 6181Y is that I will always rate it for being contained because that is how I view it, as I said I am not that concerned what others do until it appears on a public forum.

the CCC ratings given in BS 7671, e.g. for clipped direct, will have allowed for the fact that cable ends enter enclosures. after all, nowhere in the regs. does it allow for live cables to be just left sitting there with the ends exposed. these guys @IET are not complete morons. ( especially when it comes to thinking up new editions and amendments as pension pot boosters ).
