Hi im stuck between the choice of these two: Dewalt DC213KA 18 Volt Cordless SDS+ 3 Mode Hammer Drill with 2 x 2.4 nicd batts or makita BHR241Z ( body only as i already have 2 batts).

Does any one have these or used them. Please give advice on the best if you know. thanks

I have a bosch 36v sds and the makita 18v SDS, as i too already had the batteries. I have to say the bosch 36v is so much better! The makita doesn't get used unless the bosch is flat.

No i have the big 36v with the interchangable chuck! worth every penny, the only one thats better is the Hilti but that ÂŁ900, my 36v gets a pounding and its still as good as new, and it will push a 4" core too

if you are going for a new sds drill, make sure it uses li-ion batteries last thing you want is for the batteries to drain if you leave them charged in your van for a while and there low on charge

I have the Makita BHR202 18v sds. It's very good and nicely fills that capability gap between stuff the combi can't handle and stuff that's a b___ache to get the mains sds out for (20mm holes through walls, 6mm holes in engineering brick, light chiselling for a backbox repair....that sort of thing) whilst still being light enough to handle (even up a ladder). When I first got it I even used it for a 40mm core hole - which it did okay, but I wouldn't expect it to put up with that punishment too often)

I'd say go for that if you've already got the batteries, otherwise it's more chargers to carry about and more batteries to remember to put on charge.

Bosch best value for money 36v lith drill on the market. Dewalt have gone down the pan makita are following very closely behind. Metarbo make some great stuff and Milwaukee as said above.

ive been interested in the makita 18v sds BHR202RFE for a while and looking at buying, but looking at the bosch 36v compact it looks the business. Does the bosch compact have the chisel function.

cheers

Ash

It all depends on what size holes you are drilling??

I use:
36v Hilti SDS for 14mm-20mm Bits & Light chasing/chiseling
22v Hilti for 5mm-14mm bits
110v Hilti for 20mm-30mm bits & heavy chasing

It would be pointless buying a 36v cordless if you are only using it for plugs. Likewise pointless buying a 18v if you want to use a 22mm bit all day.

I have previously owned the 36v Bosch and it was superb (I really haven't noticed any difference between that and my 36v Hilti TBH). Bosch do a really good 18v cordless SDS Bosch GBH 18V-LI3 18V li-ion SDS+ Hammer - 18 Volt which again is lightweight but powerful enough for the smaller bits.

The best SDS I have ever owned however is the 22v Hilti, battery life is superb, it is light enough to work with one hand all day long and built like a tank. I use it almost everyday and very rarely get the bigger corded or cordless out, I use it for all 5.5mm red plug holes and have been drilling 16mm holes with it today to put feeds to outside lights.
